Job Description

Title: Graduate Intern (25 positions)

Reporting to: Program Manager/Head of Department

Location 1: Gulu, Busia, Kibaale, Rakai, Kiboga, Butaleja, Tororo and Hoima District.

QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor Degree in Agricultural or closely related discipline

Location 2: Pader, Oyam, Kibaale, Bundibudyo, Kiboga, Rakai and Buliisa District.

QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor Degree in Nutrition and Dietary, Public Health or Environmental Science

Location 3: Oyam, Gulu, Kitgum and Tororo District

QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor Degree in Education

Location 4: Kampala, National Office

Bachelor of Mass Communication, Procurement and Supply Chain Management, Business Administration/BCom with a bias in Accounting

Objectives of the Internship Program:

  1. The graduate trainees would form a pool from which future entry level positions in general management and programme management can be recruited. The internship program will also provide WVU with quality candidates for temporary or seasonal positions and projects.
  2. To provide room for innovation by allowing interns bring new perspectives to issues and challenges that could be affecting World Vision Uganda.
  3. Enhance visibility of WVU in both the communities where we work and at Universities where Interns shall be recruited. If an Intern gets an interesting and rewarding experience in learning and contributing to Child Wellbeing through World Vision, they’re likely to recommend resourceful people/agencies and initiatives to WV.
  4. Build a pool of Christian development professionals for the humanitarian industry. Not all interns would be absorbed into World Vision Uganda upon completion of the training; world vision would have contributed towards enhancing their employability. WV will therefore be contributing towards build a well-qualified workforce for the local humanitarian industry.
  5. Enhance youth employability by providing young qualified graduates with work experience in various sectors such as WASH, Agriculture and Food Security, Health etc within the humanitarian industry
  6. Providing a flexible and very cost effective workforce especially in scenarios where long term commitment is not required.
  7. Promoting our social responsibility in having qualified members in our community participating in development work.

Enhanced visibility of WVU in both the communities where we work and at Universities where Interns shall be recruited.

Compensation/benefits

Stipend

Interns shall not be entitled to a salary as this is not an employment. However they will be provided with a monthly stipend for upkeep, which shall be equivalent to maximum non taxable wage as stipulated by Uganda Revenue Authority. Currently this figure is One hundred Fifty thousand shillings (Ugx 150,000/= but it may change over the years. Interns must submit their personal bank details to relevant accounts offices in order to have their stipend paid out. No intern shall be paid their stipend in cash.

Medical cover

Interns shall not be covered under the staff Medical Insurance Scheme. However, each intern shall be covered for Personal Accident cover for the year in order to be allowed to travel in WVU vehicles under the Group Personal Accident cover.

Life insurance

Graduate Interns shall be put under Group Life Insurance by World Vision Uganda.

Criteria for eligibility in to GRIP

You MUST be Ugandan citizen who meet the following criteria:-

  • Graduates who have completed studies in the relevant field of study identified above as per each location.
  • Graduates who are practicing Christians regardless of denomination, gender and ethnic background are particularly encouraged to apply.
  • You MUST be below 26 years old, single and willing to fully commit your time to the Graduate internship program for a period of one year.
  • You have passion and shows genuine desire to serve among the poor in rural and semi urban areas of Uganda.
  • You demonstrate good character, honesty, high competency and generally in good physical and emotional health with evidence of a recent full medical check up.
  • Graduates with either First class degree or 2nd Class Upper (CGPA 3.8 and above). Candidates below this CGPA may not be considered.
  • You must have completed a Bachelor Degree not as far as three (3) years ago
  • You MUST be a native of the District for which you’re applying for, with evidence of assured accommodation or relatives.
