But this is often suppressed by poverty, violence, exclusion and discrimination. And it is girls who are most affected.

Purpose

Plan Kenya, Department of Children Services and UNICEF are partnering to operationalize the Child Protection Center (CPC) in Kakamega County that will be a one stop facility for child protection services and referral center for children in distress and their families.  The CPC will be jointly managed by staff from the Department of Children Services and Plan.

The purpose of the position is to provide counseling services to children and families at the Kakamega CPC.  The Counselors will conduct psychological needs assessment for children and families, develop and implement a treatment plan.

The position holder must be ready to adhere to Plan values and policies and sign the Child Protection Policy.

Key Deliverables:

  • Provide child and family therapy services.
  • Provide group therapy.
  • Develop treatment (psychological) plan and implement them.
  • Records and data management for counseling cases.
  • Conduct effective parenting classes.
  • Skills training for children on a need bases.

Academic Qualifications and experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in any field of counseling (Counseling Psychology, Child psychology, Family therapy etc.)
  • Certification in play and or art therapy.
  • At least 5 years’ experience in handling clients with diverse needs in a busy counseling environment.
  • Evidence of extensive clinical work with children and families.
  • Basic knowledge of child rights and child protection systems in Kenya.
  • Experience in conducting trainings.
  • Experience in group counseling and managing dynamics in group counseling.
  • Knowledge of the Counseling Code of Ethics (APA, BACP etc.)
    • Member of a Counseling Association in Kenya.

    Physical Environment and Demands:

    Typical office environment with field visit demands, local and international travel whenever necessary.
