NRC is looking for Support Manager for our area office in Maiduguri in Northern Nigeria. The purpose of the Support Manager is to coordinate the support functions at the Area Office and off-load the Area Manager on support functions.

NRC initiated country operations in Nigeria in June 2015, in order to respond to the critical and increasing needs in the country. NRC currently has a full team based in Maiduguri and a coordination office in Abuja. NRC is currently providing services across various sectors namely; Shelter and Non-Food Items (NFI); Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Promotion (WASH); Food Security; and Information, Counselling and Legal Assistance (ICLA) in order to address identified humanitarian needs.

The Support Manager reports to the Area Manager.

Job description

  • Line management for support staff such as Finance, HR & Admin and Logistics/ICT
  • Provide input on operational support to Area Plan of Action, and to coordinate and align operational support with programme plans at Area level
  • Responsible for ensuring quality support to project implementation
  • Facilitate Area Support Budget, area level budgets, including support cost
  • Responsible for implementation of new country specific technical SOPs, guidelines and tools in Area (HR, Logistic/ICT and Finance)
  • Responsible for technical capacity building of support staff (HR, Logistic/ICT and Finance)

Qualifications

  • Experience from working as a Finance/Support Coordinator in a humanitarian/recovery context
  • Previous experience from working in complex and volatile contexts
  • Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities
  • Knowledge about own leadership skills/profile
  • Fluency in English, both written and verbal
  • Strong communication, coordination and interpersonal skills
  • Strong analytical skills (data and financial)
  • Ability to mediate in high-stress scenarios with competing interests
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English
  • Above average computer skills
  • Knowledge of the context in northern Nigeria is an asset
