How can you make a difference?
Under the guidance of the Health Specialist, responsible for the planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of child health activities, to ensure the survival, well-being of children and mothers, and affected community in the country.
Major Duties and Accountabilities;
- Undertakes field visits to monitor integrated community case management(iCCM) of malaria, pneumonia and diarrhoea activities in districts, as well as conducts periodic programme reviews with government counterparts and other partners. Identify necessary action for program adjustments. Provides technical advice and assistance to government officials, UNICEF regional staff and other partners in the planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of iCCM projects.
- Provide technical assistance and guidance at national and district level for effective implementation of health emergency activities including planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of health emergency preparedness and response activities to ensure the survival and well-being of children and women and affected communities in Uganda.
- Prepare Child Survival and Development documents, ensuring effective strategies for scaling up child health activities including iCCM in UNICEF supported districts, ensuring effective national level support to districts especially in UNICEF category 1 and 2 districts. Develop annual plans of action; support the documentation of UNICEF interventions and prepare donor reports.
- Establishes contact with partners at national and district level to keep abreast of health emergency situations in Uganda. Frequently analyze data on health emergency trends in Uganda to guide effective program development, implementation and monitoring.
- Prepares briefings, Situation Reports and project progress reports for the decision-making process and information purposes for UNICEF management, donors, partners and allies.
- Plays a lead coordination role in discussions with government or other local authorities, partners (especially UNHCR) and allies, to advocate and/or assist counterparts in the formulation, implementation and evaluation of emergency assistance and coordination.
- Support National capacity building for child health interventions and health emergencies preparedness to recurrent risks such as disease outbreaks, refugee influxes, and epidemics and provides training and/or briefing.
- Meet with national and international agencies and partners covering the management of child health interventions in Uganda. Participate in meetings with ministries responsible for project review, and follow up on implementation of recommendations and agreements.
- Works with zonal offices to facilitate the establishment of child health interventions, health emergency interventions including district task forces a part of District Disaster Management Committees as agreed with Government. Monitors the appropriate and effective use of UNICEF resources/inputs.
To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…
- A University degree in Medicine and Advanced university degree in Public Health
- Five years of progressively responsible professional work experience in programme management, monitoring and evaluation.
