Typical Responsibilities – Key End Results of Position:

“What” is done and “why”, but not “how”; include indicators for success

  • Lead and facilitate community mobilization processes and awareness sessions, including the formation and strengthening of specific program and sponsorship committees
  • Facilitate children, youth, families and stakeholder consultation as well as participation in sponsorship, programs and projects activities using the PRA tools.
  • In liaison with the Program Area Manager and Sponsorship Coordinator, strengthen the relationships between the different stakeholders at community level
  • Facilitate and strengthen community capacity in resource mobilization that includes the community led sponsorship approach
  • Establish good working relations with children, families, community leadership, government extension staff and other stakeholders at community.
  • In liaison with other team members and development partners, facilitate advocacy skills development in children, youth, families and communities to lobby and influence policy at local, national and international level
  • Facilitate community development planning, project implementation and community based monitoring and evaluation
  • In liaison with the Program Area Manager and Sponsorship Coordinator, formulate weekly plans to address sponsorship work and programs as well as submit monthly reports (should include home visits, absent children and children’s death)
  • Support and facilitate phase in activities in new communities, sponsorship data collection, and sponsorship file management at the PA (Program Area), quality control of sponsorship communications and monitoring of the progress of the sponsorship committees.
  • Promote child rights based programming at field level and create community awareness on development education
  • Documenting lessons learnt case studies and other relevant information and sharing with other program staff.
  • Facilitate the integration of Sponsorship and programs activities in the field
  • Manage production of quality sponsorship products to meet set deadlines.
  • Ensure participation in stakeholders meetings and networks at community.

Complexity of problems handled & the degree of investigation, analysis, & creative thinking required to solve them.

Communications and Working Relationships:

Working contacts inside and outside the organization; include the purpose and level (high, medium, low) of the contact

  • Works with the programs team,
  • Works closely with Sponsorship Coordinator and Sponsorship Assistant

Knowledge, Skills, Behaviors, and Experience Required to Achieve Role’s Objectives:

Gained through education, training, & experience

  • Degree in Development Studies, Rural Development, Rural Sociology or any related area with at least 3 years experiences working in community development facilitation or project management in a  reputable NGO                                     
  • Ability and experience in partnership building, networking and Collaboration,
  • Child participation and consultation processes,
  • Fluency in Portuguese  languages (written or oral) – knowledge of English and local language is an added advantage
  • An understanding of community development preferably from a rights based perspective (CCCD).
  • Communications skills and appropriate to the audience
  • Problem solving and facilitation skills
  • Practical experience of working with communities at grassroots level with proven skills and knowledge of organizational development and capacity building within the Civil Society sector
  • Proficiency in use of MS office
  • Analytical skills
  • Motor Cycle Riding skills (preferably with a riding license)
  • Skills in digital photography/or overall skills in photography

Physical Environment and Demands:

May be “typical office environment”; note if heavy lifting, climbing, excess travel, etc.

  • This position entails field and office work, riding motorcycles, exposure to the sun, wind, rain and traveling both within the country whenever necessary.

Level of Contact with Children:

Low contact:     No contact or very low frequency of interaction

Mid contact:     Occasional interaction with children

High level:        Frequent interaction with children

Annual remuneration – 766.284,00MT

Plan International is an international organisation or development which works in 51 countries across Africa, the Americas, and Asia to promote the safeguarding of children.It is a nonprofit organisation and is one of the world's largest organisations based on children, it works in 58,000 communities with the help of volunteers to improve how 56 million children live. The charity also has 21 national organisations who have been given the responsibility to oversee the raising of funds and awareness in their individual countries.

The organisation puts an emphasis on communities working together in order to address the needs of children around the world. The NGO focuses on child participation, education, economic security, emergencies, health, protection, sexual health (including HIV), and water and sanitation. It provides training in disaster preparedness, response and recovery, and has worked on relief efforts in countries including Haiti, Colombia and Japan.

Plan International also sponsors the Because I Am a Girl campaign, which has published many stories focusing on the struggle of young women in the developing world.

Plan International was founded during the Spanish Civil War by British journalist John Langdon-Davies and aid worker Eric Muggeridge. When they witnessed the conflict change the lives of children, they founded ‘Foster Parents Plan for Children in Spain’, which would later change its name to Plan International. Set up in 1937, the organisation provided food, shelter and clothing to children whose lives had been destroyed by the war.
