Description
The Immunization Coordinator, HPV will be based in Harare, Zimbabwe and provide assistance at national and sub-national levels to the Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI) and other units of the Ministry of Health and Child Care (MOHCC)/Zimbabwe government departments and to their immunization inter-agency coordinating committee (ICC) and partners for HPV introduction planning, preparation and implementation, as applicable. The Coordinator will serve as the in-country immunization technical focal point for HPV vaccine introduction and liaise with JSI Headquarters and Gavi, as well as with other key partners (e.g., WHO, UNICEF, USAID, and others).
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Immunization Coordinator, HPV will focus on the roll-out of HPV vaccine in Zimbabwe with a view towards ensuring the vaccine’s smooth integration within the routine immunization program. The Coordinator will provide expertise towards the design, preparations, initial implementation, monitoring and post-introduction evaluation/follow-up of the vaccine introduction (within the given timeframe). The Coordinator will report to JSI’s Senior Immunization Technical Advisor in Harare and work closely with the MOHCC and colleagues from other partner organizations at national and sub-national level and will also work as part of an in-country JSI technical team.
Specific duties include:
- Serve as the Immunization Coordinator, HPV to the MOHCC, Zimbabwe ICC, and the technical sub-committees/working groups for new vaccine introduction, helping to facilitate partner coordination and arrange for and participate in meetings to plan for implementation of HPV vaccine introduction;
- Contribute to strategic planning for HPV vaccine introduction in collaboration with the immunization technical committees and partners, including providing national-level technical assistance to finalize introduction plans and timelines and micro-planning at sub-national level;
- Work with the MOHCC/ICC and the immunization technical sub-committees to ensure immunization system preparedness for new vaccine roll-out (e.g., cold chain planning, training, supervision, etc.);
- Assist the MOHCC and partners to develop/update training materials and reporting tools, as well as the implement training activities;
- Carry out supportive supervision to sub-national level to monitor introduction preparations and integration of the vaccine into the routine system;
- Collaborate with the JSI Headquarters team to prepare and implement work plans and budgets for the Gavi contract, and submit technical reports to the project, Gavi, and relevant partners, including monthly activity summaries and interim technical reports;
- Maintain close contact (e.g., email, telephone, Skype, etc.) with the JSI Headquarters team and JSI in-country office, as well as with Gavi colleagues;
- Liaise with JSI’s Senior Administration and Senior Finance Managers, Country Director, and Headquarters Senior Program Officers and Finance Officers to ensure the smooth implementation of in-country activities, work plans, budgets and expenditures;
- And report to the MOHCC National EPI Manager for day–to- day activities.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Nursing clinical degree, Community Nursing Diploma, or MPH, and more than ten years of experience in the field of public health, with specialization in immunization and maternal/child health.
- At least seven years of work experience in a management position with immunization.
- Experience managing immunization programs and child health programs, including provincial and/or district-based work.
- Knowledge of Zimbabwe’s MOHCC structure at all levels.
- Experience working in a multi-agency/organizational environment and strong communication and coordination skills.
- Specific experience in supporting health and/or immunization programs and in developing and implementing successful strategies to reach out to and actively engage children in schools and those who are socially, geographically and/or economically marginalized from accessing health and/or routine immunization services.
- Fluency in English is required and knowledge of Shona and Ndebele languages is an added advantage.
- Ability to work legally in Zimbabwe.
Salary commensurate with experience.
