The Civil Society Academy started in 2014 as a pioneering initiative of Welthungerhilfe, one of the largest Development NGOs in Germany. Through genuine engagement and excellent capacity development of local actors, we strive to become a critical part of a new international eco-system that inspires civil society actors to fulfill their vision and mission. The Civil Society Africa is a newly established entity which belongs to the international network of Civil Society Academies, with locations in Cambodia, India, Germany and now Ethiopia.

The purpose of the CSA Africa is to support Civil Society Organizations in Africa to play their roles as the ethical backbone of the society and to become effective stakeholders in democratization and development. The CSA Africa has the following objectives:

  • Building the capacities of civil society organizations and social leaders
  • Incubating critical initiatives and new organizations.
  • Supporting national dialogue and advocacy processes & networks

The coordinator of the CSA Africa

  • must be passionate about social justice, strengthening Civil Society Organizations and want to go the extra mile to contribute to a team working on the forefront of innovation, leadership, and organizational change in civil society.
  • must be a dynamic person with a master’s degree in social sciences or related fields and more than 7 years of experience in the social sector,
  • be entrepreneurial, creative and a very good communicator, self-managed and accountable for your roles and processes,
  • be tech-savvy and fluent in English,
  • Ideally, you would have experiences in social start-ups, developing new organizations, and in providing high-quality trainings and consultancies.

The position will be based in Addis Ababa. You will initially work in a small team with a director, an international advisor, a young professional, support staff and a network of external facilitators from the region and beyond.

Purpose: Developing and coordinating the portfolio of the Academy in line with its purpose, so it becomes a thriving regional social enterprise.

Accountabilities

  • Coordinating the day-to-day activities of the Academy incl. trainings, tailor-made services, dialogues, and innovation projects
  • Generating business & project proposals
  • Mobilizing resources in the region incl. funding, strategic partnerships and networks with national NGOs and social leaders
  • Marketing and brand development of the CSA Africa in collaboration with the international team
  • Being accountable: Upward accountability towards the donors, or clients and down-ward accountability towards the target groups of our activities
  • Ensuring onboarding, learning and reflection processes in the team
  • Contributing to the teams assigned for trainings, tailor-made services, dialogues and innovation projects.

Other roles may be assigned as appropriate.
