Overview of position

  • Our client serves as the lead United Nations (UN) agency on migration & collaborating with various partners to address migration issues & support vulnerable populations, including refugees & Internally Displaced Persons (IDP’s).

Role objectives

Under the overall supervision of the ERL (Early Recovery & Livelihoods) Program Manager & direct supervision of the ERL Assistant, the selected staff be responsible & accountable for the following activities:

  • Assist with the implementation of the ERL construction projects according to the agreed response strategy & plan.
  • Liaise closely with the ERL Program Manager & ERL Assistant throughout the different stages of ERL programming.
  • Fully participate in & / or facilitate in any relevant assessments carried out by the ERL unit.
  • Possess previous knowledge of implementing construction project through Cash for Work (C4W) modality.
  • Provide support to the contractors & assist in the distribution of materials, supplies & equipment to be conducted timely & according to the standard procedures.
  • Provide support in conducting detailed schedule of dilapidation formulating Bill of Quantities (BoQ) & market assessment to understand market trends.
  • Continuously monitor the ERL construction activities in the field, overseeing execution & evaluating progress through outputs & impacts using both quantitative & qualitative data.
  • Prepare status reports, minutes of the meetings, travel requests & other documents, as required by the management.
  • Ensure proper filing of documents.
  • Perform any other duties that may be required.

Project reporting

  • This role will work under the overall supervision of the ERL (Early Recovery & Livelihoods) Program Manager & direct supervision of the ERL Assistant.

Key competencies

  • Graduate degree in civil engineering, architecture or relevant field from a recognized institution with at least three years of relevant experience in shelter or construction industry.
  • Experience with humanitarian construction & ERL programs is desirable.
  • A sound & up to date knowledge of local construction techniques & materials.
  • Versatile in use of design related software (e.g. AutoCAD) & ability to prepare schedules / BoQ’s & cost estimates.
  • Proficiency in computer applications (MS Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Ability to maintain integrity in performing responsibility assigned.
  • Proactive & independent worker.
  • Ability to learn new programming modalities quickly.
  • Administrative & time management skills.
  • Must have strong analytical & planning skills.
  • Willingness to assist efficiently in a very busy project environment.
  • Ability to prepare clear & concise reports.
  • Fluency in both English & Hausa are required (oral & written) & fluency in Fulfulde is desired.
  • Respects & promotes individual & cultural differences. Encourages diversity & inclusion.
