About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated Global Human Resources Fellow to join our team, focusing on benefits administration, payroll processing, staff support, and HR data management. This fellowship is ideal for someone looking to develop specialized skills within global HR functions and gain exposure to multi-regional HR operations. As a Global HR Fellow you will assist with employee benefits, payroll management, and data integrity while contributing to multiple HR initiatives that enhance the employee experience across our organization. You will be based in Nairobi, Kenya or Kigali, Rwanda and will report to one of the Global HR managers. This is a hybrid role which will work both in-office and remotely.

Responsibilities

Learn and assist with various Global HR work to include but not limited to:

Benefits Administration

  • Assist with benefit enrollment and administration processes, ensuring accuracy in benefits data and providing support to employees.
  • Respond to employee inquiries about benefit programs (health, retirement, wellness), working with the benefits team to resolve issues promptly.
  • Collaborate with payroll to ensure the proper allocation and eligibility of benefits is paid out each month.

Payroll Support

  • Assist with payroll data collection and review to ensure timely and accurate payroll processing.
  • Help maintain payroll records, update employee information, and process payroll adjustments.
  • Work with the finance team to address payroll discrepancies and support payroll audits.

Staff Support

  • Provide staff support by responding to HR-related inquiries and directing employees to appropriate resources.

HR Data and Account Management

  • Maintain HRIS databases with current employee records, benefits, and payroll information to ensure accuracy and data integrity.
  • Help generate regular HR reports, including benefits enrollment and payroll summaries.
  • Assist with creation and removal of staff email accounts.

Qualifications

  • You will handle confidential information with integrity and professionalism.

One Acre Fund is a nonprofit organization that supplies smallholder farmers in East Africa with asset-based financing and agriculture training services to reduce hunger and poverty. Headquartered in Bungoma, Kenya, the organization works with farmers in rural villages throughout Kenya, Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania, Uganda, and Malawi.

Using a market-based approach, One Acre Fund facilitates activities and transactions at various levels of the farming value chain, including seed sourcing and market support. In 2015, farmers who worked with One Acre Fund realized a 300% return on their investment and significantly increased farm income on every planted acre.

One Acre Fund offers smallholder farmers an asset-based loan that includes: 1) distribution of seeds and fertilizer; 2) financing for farm inputs; 3) training on agriculture techniques; and 4) market facilitation to maximize profits. Each service bundle is around US$80 in value and includes crop insurance to mitigate the risks of drought and disease.

To receive the One Acre Fund loan and training, farmers must join a village group that is supported by a local One Acre Fund field officer. Field officers meet regularly with the farmer groups to coordinate delivery of farm inputs, administer trainings and to collect repayments. One Acre Fund offers a flexible repayment system: farmers may pay back their loans in any increment at any time during the growing season. Beyond their core program model, One Acre Fund also offers smallholder farmers opportunities to purchase additional products and services on credit. These include solar lights and reusable sanitary pads.
