Job Overview/Summary:
Under the supervision of the Senior Grants Coordinator, the Budgeting and Compliance Coordinator in collaboration with the proposal development strategist contributes to overall business development and grants management at IRC Ethiopia. The Budgeting and Compliance Coordinator is responsible for high-quality budget proposal development (including budget narratives), budgeting for realignment/Modification, donor compliance,
communication and information management and staff capacity building. This position is based in Addis Ababa with occasional trips to field sites if needed. The Budgeting and Compliance Coordinator will work collaboratively with all 15 members of the Grants and Partnership Unit, and with the technical coordinators, operations team, and the finance team.
Major responsibilities include:
- Lead and coordinate high quality budget development of new proposal budgets and budget modifications and realignments and ensure proper reviews according to IRC guidelines to make budgets error-free.
- Lead and coordinate the budget narratives, as needed (pre-dominantly FCDO, USG and EU donors).
- Act as a focal point with the donor in the country for the budgeting process, as needed.
- Build budgeting tools and templates for program teams and establish standardized budgeting processes.
- Carry out ad-hoc data research and analysis, as needed.
- Research donor compliance issues for new opportunities or existing grants.
- Update relevant trackers regularly; Active Grants and Pipeline Tracker (weekly), Burn Rate Tracker (monthly), FM01 (monthly), TU2% tracker (quarterly). on a weekly basis.
- Provide on-the-job training to Grants and Partnerships Unit’s members on advanced Excel, budgeting, and basic accounting principles, as needed. Topics may include donor compliance rules and regulations, budget development.
Safeguarding Responsibilities: –
- Promote and actively participate in initiatives and efforts to build team engagement, inclusion and cohesion in IRC Ethiopia.
- Foster ongoing learning, honest dialogue, and reflection to strengthen safeguarding and to promote IRC values and adherence to IRC policies.

- BA degree required; master’s degree in accounting, Economics, International Affairs, Social Sciences, or STEM (Science, Technology and Math) strongly preferred.
Preferred experience & skills:
- Advanced MS Excel and Math skills are required.
- BA degree required; master’s degree in accounting, Economics, International Affairs, Social Sciences, or STEM (Science, Technology and Math) strongly preferred.
- At least 6 years of experience in program management and or grants management and proposal/business development/design and at least 4 years in managerial expereince;
- Prior knowledge of donors (e.g. ECHO, EU, USG donors, FCDO, SIDA, UN) and government regulations preferred.
- Good communication with strong organizational, time management, and analytical skills.
- Excellent interpersonal, cultural, and respectful skills.
- Flexibility to adapt to changing requirements.
- Strong capacity to mentor and build the capacity of staff.
- Ability to balance priorities, meet demanding deadlines, and work under pressure in unstable security environments.
- Strong digital literacy is required.
Language Skills:
- Proficiency in English, spoken and written are required and proficiency in Amharic is advantageous
