Proposal Summary:

The objective of the South Sudan Peace Building and Independent Media Activity (PBIMA) is focused on resolving ongoing communal conflicts to reduce violence and build a sustainable peace by addressing the underlying causes of conflict, promoting reconciliation, and supporting the development of inclusive and resilient communities. To foster reconciliation and trust-building, enhance social cohesion and community resilience, livelihood support, and trauma awareness through community-based initiatives; the activity will target conflict-affected communities across the hot spots with a focus on women, youth, people with disabilities, refugees, internally displaced persons (IDPs), returnees, ethnic minorities and key stakeholders in communities such as traditional leaders, civil society organizations, and religious leaders.

Position Summary:

MSI is seeking a Chief of Party (COP) with experience in leading international development and peacebuilding projects. The COP will be responsible for the overall implementation and strategy of the program, which includes managing staff, coordinating with stakeholders, ensuring compliance with donor requirements, and monitoring project progress. Additionally, the COP will act as the primary liaison with the donor and other partners, guiding efforts to advance peacebuilding and independent media initiatives in South Sudan. Strong oral and written communication skills, analytical abilities, interpersonal skills, and team management expertise are essential for this role.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide overall strategic vision, management and technical direction for program activities.
  • Supervise field technical and administrative staff, along with partner organizations.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact with USAID.
  • Lead coordination and communication with key stakeholders, partners, donors, and government agencies, as well as among various partners, sub-awardees, and grantees.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, beneficiaries, prime and subcontractors, suppliers and partner ensuring effective and timely responses to inquiries and concerns.
  • Oversee work planning, performance management, data collection, quality assurance, budgetary control, and the responsiveness of technical assistance to ensure compliance with USAID regulations.
  • Coordinate with Headquarters support staff to ensure adherence to corporate policies, fiscal management practices, and reporting requirements.

Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in international development, peacebuilding, conflict resolution or other relevant field.
  • Eight (8) to Ten (10) years of professional experience in managing peacebuilding and reconciliation related donor funded programs.
  • Knowledge of related technical areas such as peacebuilding, conflict prevention, stabilization and/or, in conflict and post-conflict environments.
  • Experience working in conflict and post-conflict environments. Experience in South is highly desirable.
  • Experience managing media projects in development contexts is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated capability to develop solid working relationships with a broad range of high-level host country governments, and international agencies.
  • Prior experience supervising large teams on donor-funded projects of similar size and scope, preferably funded by USAID.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage effectively with national and local government counterparts and civil society organizations.
  • Strong interpersonal, supervision, and written/oral communication skills.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English.
