Danish Refugee Council, one of the world’s leading humanitarian NGOs, is currently looking for a highly qualified Conflict Analysis Specialist who can support the successful implementation of conflict sensitive activities in the framework of Border Security Management projects, ensuring that our strategy is informed by sound analysis, with consultations with teams and concerned stakeholders.

About the job

Since 2014, Danish Demining Group (DDG) and Danish Refugee Council (DRC) has been implementing a Border Security Management (BSM) Programme in the Liptako-Gourma region (encompassing parts of Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger) to promote stability, build community and individual (especially among youth-at-risk) resilience to armed violence and conflict. In the border areas of the Liptako-Gourma region DDG’s approach entails ensuring effective, accountable and responsive border security and management, improved community safety and social cohesion. Your main duties and responsibilities will be:

· Carry out desk reviews to identify and summarize existing key analysis and baseline studies, academic reports and identify national and regional issues that may have an impact on local conflict and security in the target areas.

· Design, plan and monitor the collection of data for in-depth analysis of the conflict environment (actors, profile, causes and dynamics), informed by the perspectives of the communities themselves : work with field teams, plan and remotely oversee data collection and inclusive dialogues carried out by DDG staff to ensure highest possible data quality, in liaison with the Regional BSM Coordinator and field project managers.

· Prepare validation meetings/dialogues in the target areas and participate in some or all of these, together with key staff, contingent on security situation.

· Consolidate and submit final versions of conflict analysis reports and perception surveys by communes.

· Ensure on-going mapping and (re)analysis of the conflict as the projects unfolds. This includes awareness of linkages among community, national and regional levels of conflicts.

· Ensure that the knowledge gained from this analysis informs the different steps of the projects, from implementation to monitoring and evaluation

· Develop rapid conflict analysis tools and guidance notes to ensure conflict sensitivity analysis and acceptance approaches are safely integrated into DRC’s programme design, implementation and monitoring.

· Ensure teams are aware of and trained in tools/SOPs developed

About you

To be successful in this role we expect you to have at least 5 years’ experience conducting conflict analysis, an extensive experience of research or work related to the Sahel region and in-depth knowledge and experience of implementing conflict sensitive approach and tools. Moreover, we also expect the following:

Required

· Strong analytical and conceptual skills with knowledge of analytical tools employed in crisis-affected/fragile contexts and proven experience in conducting conflict analysis

· Advanced university degree in conflict analysis, peace studies, or similar field

· Sound experience in incorporating conflict analysis learning into programme design, monitoring, evaluation, indicator development, impact analysis, and collaborative learning

· Knowledge of and experience with a range of research approaches that support and/or complement conflict analysis, including qualitative and quantitative research, conflict assessment and gender analysis

· Proven experience working with government authorities, civil society organisations and academic institutions

· Experience drafting user-friendly knowledge products such as analytical documents, policy papers, baseline studies, desk reviews, and comparative studies

· Ability to work flexibly in a diverse team with proven leadership skills

· Fluency in written and spoken French

Desirable

· Prior experience in working in the Sahel region would be desirable
