TERMS OF REFERENCE FOR CONSTRUCTION SITE SUPERVISOR

  1. Background:

Habitat for Humanity Kenya (HFHK) is among the 70 country affiliates of HFH International (HFHI). We report to the Africa Area Office (AAO) together with other 8 National Organizations (NOs). In Kenya, we were registered in 1982 as Non-Governmental Organization, with the goal of enabling low-income families access decent and affordable shelter. In the last 40 years, HFHK has supported more than 345,000 families across 9 counties in Kenya through housing micro-finance and direct construction. We are currently operating in Laikipia, Homabay, Kisumu, Tana River, Machakos and Makueni. Our current Business Plan (2020-2025) has outlined four programmatic areas, namely: Financing for Owner-led Construction (FOC); Settlement-Based Practice (SBP); Secure Land Tenure (SLT); Disaster Risk Reduction & Response (DR3).

The need:

Habitat for Humanity Kenya is considering recruiting temporary site supervisor to oversee the construction of 20 incremental housing in Tana River as from 10th March 2025 for a period of 20 days as per the work plan that will be shared by the CSS.

Objective:

The site supervisor, on behalf of HFHK Construction Supervisor to oversee, monitor, inspect and give progress reports of the construction of 20 incremental housing in Tana River which will be constructed through full contract approach by a selected contractor.

Main Responsibilities and Tasks:

  1. General supervision of construction works on behalf of HFHK construction supervisor.
  2. inspecting construction sites to ensure that work is done safely, to quality standards, and in accordance with building plans.
  3. Attend and inspect major project millstones activities and ensure the standards are met by the contractor.
  4. Work, closely with project steering committee to ensure smooth work flow.
  5. Prepare weekly summarized progress report to HFHK construction supervisor.
  6. Assist in any other duties as requested by the Construction supervisor.
  7. Reporting Lines:

    The Construction site supervisor will directly report to the Construction Supervisor.

  8. Payment schedule:

    It is expected that the Site supervisor will work on a full-day basis and will receive a daily wagefor a period of 20 days. Based on the distance he will be facilitated with transport.

  9. Educational Requirements, Minimum Qualifications & Credentials:

    Preferred area of studies: trade test grade of 3,2,1 in masonry from a recognized TVET.

  10. Work Experience:

    At least 5 years as a lead mason construction projects – Attach CV

    Knowledge of English both oral and written, Computer skills in MS Office Word, Excel,archiCAD and Internet – Attach certificates
