How can you make a difference?

Under the supervision the Communications Specialist the consultant will be shooting videos, editing and producing final products. The final product can be in form of short clips, documentary, viral videos and media video clips. The contents of the footage will mainly include work of UNICEF through its health, education and child protection sectors, its partners, project activities, project/programme launches, field monitoring, donor missions, donor communication products and any other UCO events within and outside Kampala. The videographer’s work will support the UCO through the Communication Section to promote UNICEF Uganda’s activities. The videos/footage will be disseminated to UCO target audiences, partners, donors and policy makers.

Key Tasks:

  • Travel to field to document and shoot projects/activities and generate footage with sound bites as per specific assignments
  • Generate a script in coordination with Communication Section
  • To review and edit footage to produce compelling human interest stories, media news pieces, online clips and short pieces
  • Input feedback from UNICEF, partners or teams involved in the assignment.
  • Share row footage with UNICEF

Key Deliverables

  • In line with UNICEF Uganda’s content calendar generated, develop a video production plan for each of the videography assignments.
  • Shoot video footage to fulfill each specific assignment, criteria and objective. The objects for shooting will be in different locations within and outside Kampala.
  • Edit video footage to produce compelling human interest stories, media clips, long and short documentaries
  • Develop script in coordination with the Communications Section
  • Conduct recorded interviews, edit audio files to produce final clips in required format (s)
  • Transcribe interviews shoot in local language into English or any other international language as may be required.
  • Transmit source material to specific receivers according to the specific requirements of each assignment e.g. may include live coverage, burning footage on CD/DVD, couriering tapes and CDs, transmitting via satellite FTP or delivering the material in person.

To qualify asan advocate for every child you will have…

  • University Degree in Communication, Journalism, Broadcast Journalism-TV, or equivalent professional work experience in the above area.
  • Five years progressively responsible professional work experience in the above fields, interactive digital media.
  • Ability to express clearly and concisely ideas and concepts in written and oral form; specific skills in videography and editing systems
  • Knowledge of current theories and practices of communication, research, analyzing, planning, strategy development and Uganda’s digital and TV landscape
  • Proven ability to conceptualize, plan and execute ideas as well as impart knowledge and teach skills
  • Proven ability to effectively manage relationships with media representatives, government officials, other UNICEF partners and the UN system in Uganda family.
  • Creativity with various communication concepts and attention to detail required
  • Knowledge of UN common practices and UNICEF mandate and brand
  • Open to national and international applicants
  • Sample work should be attached.

Private groups and some six million individuals contribute the rest through national committees. It is estimated that 92 per cent of UNICEF revenue is distributed to programme services.UNICEF's programmes emphasize developing community-level services to promote the health and well-being of children. UNICEF was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1965 and the Prince of Asturias Award of Concord in 2006.

Most of UNICEF's work is in the field, with staff in over 190 countries and territories. More than 200 country offices carry out UNICEF's mission through programmes developed with host governments. Seven regional offices provide technical assistance to country offices as needed.
