1. About Habitat for Humanity Kenya

Habitat for Humanity Kenya (HFH Kenya) is a non-profit organization dedicated to ensuring that every person has access to decent and affordable housing. Since its establishment in 1982, HFH Kenya has worked with low-income families, communities, and stakeholders to build and improve homes, advocate for secure land tenure, and provide housing-related services. The organization partners with government agencies, private sector actors, and development organizations to promote sustainable housing solutions, enhance climate resilience, and foster community-led development.

Through innovative housing programs, financial inclusion initiatives, and disaster response efforts, HFH Kenya aims to create a world where everyone has a safe and dignified place to live.

Habitat for Humanity Kenya (HFH Kenya) is committed to fostering a cohesive and high-performing team that aligns with the organization’s mission, vision, and values. However, the current team dynamic is characterized by fragmentation, lack of team cohesion, poor accountability, siloed operations, and misalignment with HFH values. Additionally, the team has recently experienced challenges related to senior leadership and team transitions, which have impacted overall performance and collaboration.

To address these issues, HFH Kenya seeks to engage a consultant with expertise in organizational development, leadership development, and change management to facilitate a team retreat aimed at strengthening team cohesion, accountability, and alignment with HFH values.

2. Objectives

The primary objectives of the consultancy are:

  1. Enhance Team Cohesion – Foster a culture of collaboration, trust, and open communication among team members.
  2. Strengthen Leadership and Accountability – Equip the Senior Management Team (SMT) and staff with leadership skills to drive strategic direction, responsibility, and accountability.
  3. Improve Cross-Functional Collaboration – Break silos and enhance teamwork between different departments.
  4. Align the Team with HFH Values – Reinforce organizational values to ensure all team members operate with a shared purpose and commitment.
  5. Develop a Roadmap for Change – Provide practical strategies and an action plan to sustain positive organizational culture and performance.

3. Scope of Work

The consultant will:

  • Conduct a pre-retreat assessment through interviews, surveys, or focus group discussions to understand key challenges and needs.
  • Design and facilitate an interactive team retreat that includes:
    • Leadership development sessions for SMT and staff
    • Communication and collaboration workshops
    • Accountability and responsibility frameworks
    • HFH values alignment sessions
    • Addressing leadership transitions and change management
  • Provide individual and group coaching where necessary.
  • Develop a post-retreat action plan with clear recommendations to ensure sustainable change.
  • Submit a final report summarizing key observations, recommendations, and an implementation roadmap.

4. Deliverables

  1. Pre-retreat assessment report highlighting key team challenges and areas for improvement.
  2. Customized retreat agenda and facilitation plan.
  3. Delivery of a structured two-day engagement on 19th and 20th March 2025.
  4. Post-retreat report including observations, recommendations, and an action plan for continued team development.

5. Consultant’s Qualifications and Experience

The ideal consultant should have:

  • A proven track record in organizational development, leadership coaching, or team building.
  • Experience facilitating retreats or workshops for teams facing similar challenges.
  • Strong knowledge of change management and strategic alignment.
  • Excellent facilitation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience working with non-profits or international development organizations is an added advantage.

6. Duration and Timeline

  • The initial engagement will take place over two days (19th and 20th March 2025), with the potential for a longer-term assignment based on outcomes.
  • A pre-retreat assessment and planning phase will take place before the engagement.
  • Exact dates for post-retreat follow-up will be determined in consultation with HFH Kenya.
