The Opportunity

The CST Ethiopia Country Director will lead a strong country management team, providing vision and direction for the Ethiopia country programme in line with CAFOD, SCIAF and Trócaire’s organisational strategies in a country programme focused on women’s empowerment and resilient communities (including as relates to climate change) as well as humanitarian response. This varied role provides an exciting opportunity for someone with a high commitment to working with 21 local and national partners, with a focus on the localisation agenda while making a positive impact on the lives of more than 400,000 programme participants in five areas of Ethiopia.

About CAFOD, SCIAF and Trócaire (CST)

CAFOD, SCIAF and Trócaire (CST) represent the official international relief and development agencies of the Catholic Church in England and Wales, Scotland, and Ireland. The 3 agencies have been operating an innovative joint programme model in Ethiopia since 2000. In 2020 registrations in Ethiopia were officially merged under one entity ‘CST Ethiopia’.

CST Ethiopia has a Country Strategic Plan 2021 – 2026 focusing on programme thematic areas of women’s empowerment, resilient communities, and saving lives and protection human dignity. CST’s implementation approach in Ethiopia is through working with national partner organisations. We currently work with more than 21 partners managing 41 projects in five areas of Ethiopia (Tigray, Afar, South Omo, Borana and Greater Addis Ababa). The role will involve frequent national and occasional international travel and suit someone who enjoys building/maintaining collaborative relationships with other organisations, institutions and communities.

Requirements

· Third-level qualifications in a relevant field (e.g., International Development, Business Administration, Economics, Social / Political Sciences, Law).

· Qualification by experience may be considered in lieu of formal qualifications.

· Demonstrable experience in running a country office (admin, finance, HR management, security management etc.).

· In-depth understanding of programming in a partnership model, working in a partnership-based NGO.

· Demonstrable experience or knowledge of one or more of the programme areas: sustainable livelihoods and natural resource management, women’s empowerment, emergency prevention and response and civil society strengthening.

What we can offer you:

Trócaire (as the contracting agency of CST) offers a competitive package of salary and benefits including pension scheme. This position is unaccompanied. The salary range for this role is €44,000 – €55,000.

You will report to Trócaire Head of Portfolio Fragile and Conflict Affected States. The job opportunity will be offered on a fixed term contract for 3 years and is based in Addis Ababa. As part of your role, you will line manage a team of 5 professionals directly and be responsible for the country team of 40 staff.
