Danish Red Cross (DRC) is looking for a Country Manager to lead and develop our partnership and support to Ethiopia Red Cross (ERCS), develop the portfolio and scale-up in Ethiopia in order to ensure that vulnerable communities are protected and less affected by disasters and crisis

Ethiopia has been experiencing increasing internal conflict and violence the past few years and is frequently hit by different natural disasters. Conflict, drought and floods have fuelled displacement affecting millions of people. Ethiopia is also host to one of the biggest refugee populations in Africa. In addition, the prospect of hundreds of thousands of returnees expected to return from Saudi Arabia and other countries, add complexity to the migration flows within, to and out of Ethiopia.

DRCs main partner in Ethiopia is ERCS. Managing the partnership and ensuring support to ERCS in programme management and capacity development is the main focus of the Country Managers responsibility. To address humanitarian challenges, DRCs engagement in Ethiopia is focusing thematically on supporting communities to be less affected by disasters and crisis and to ensure that migrants and displaced people are protected.

The Country Manager is overall responsible for ensuring that the DRC supported country programme and partnerships are implemented in line with the DRC international strategy and Country Strategy, Red Cross Standard Operational Procedures, and donor requirements and guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • The strategic direction of DRC engagement in Ethiopia in alignment with ERCS and DRC strategic priorities
  • Leading and implementing the scale up of the DRC country engagement in Ethiopia, including operationalising business development and fundraising strategies
  • Leading DRCs commitment to strengthened Movement collaboration in Ethiopia
  • The operationalising and implementing organisational priorities in Ethiopia
  • The overall management and development of DRC supported portfolio and budget in Ethiopia
  • Representing DRC and develop Partnerships with RCRC Movement Partners other in-country partners and stakeholders
  • Lead and manage the DRC team of delegates in Ethiopia, including security

Essential experience and qualifications:

  • Academic background, e.g. master’s degree in international development studies or any other relevant field
  • Minimum of 8 years’ experience in working with humanitarian organisations in developing, emergency and post-emergency contexts
  • Documented experience with team leading and staff management and security management
  • Successful experiences with resource mobilisation with private foundations and institutional donors, including EU/ECHO, DANIDA and others
  • Expertise within programme cycle and financial management of programmes supported by major donors
  • Experience from the RCRC Movement
  • Working experience from Africa
  • Exceptional resilience, stress management and ability to work in demanding situations under pressure
  • Excellent communication, coordination, networking and facilitation skills
  • Full working proficiency in English speaking and writing
