Chemonics seeks a Deputy Chief of Party- Programs for the anticipated $25 – $50 Million USAID Locally-led Development and Peacebuilding (LDP) Activity for Sudan. This Activity will complement the USAID/Sudan development and humanitarian assistance portfolio by increasing Sudanese capacity to address conflict and build peace, engage in democratic processes, and promote community resilience and socio-economic development. This position is based in East Africa with significant travel to Sudan, and the anticipated project duration is five years. Responsibilities Include:
- Technical Leadership: Provide technical leadership and management for the project, stepping in for the Chief of Party (COP) when necessary
- Strategic Collaboration: Collaborate closely with the COP and project leadership to develop and implement a sound and innovative project strategy
- Team Coordination: Lead and mentor the program team, ensuring quality control and responsiveness to enhance program outcomes and meet targets
- Learning Integration: Work with COP and MEL/CLA staff to integrate and disseminate learning into program strategies and activities
- Stakeholder Engagement: Foster productive relationships with USAID, government institutions, and local stakeholders to ensure effective collaboration and compliance in program implementation
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) in international development, organizational development, internal development, or related field to the overall scope; Or an equivalent combination of education and work experience in a related field
- Minimum of eight years of senior-level experience in donor-funded activities, in the government, and/or civil society required
- Experience in fragile or transitional settings is essential, with a preference for candidates who have worked in Sudan
- Knowledge of key stakeholders in both the Sudanese government and non-government sectors, along with an understanding of their interactions and relationships, is important
- Demonstrated expertise in strategic planning, management, oversight, and budgeting is required.
- Experience overseeing USAID and/or donor grants and subcontracts management
- Fluency in written and spoken English required; Arabic language experience preferred
