We are looking for a Director of Finance to serve with our team in Juba, South Sudan. This role is a great opportunity for you to develop, implement, and coordinate all financial and budgetary aspects of our activities in the office. In this role, you’ll be responsible for administrative field accounting, expenditures, bookkeeping, and payroll related to our many programs and projects in the country.

A day in the life of a Director of Finance:

In the role of Director of Finance, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Maintain your personal relationship with Jesus Christ and be an effective witness for Him
  • Provide leadership and management of the Field Office Finance Department by planning, directing and controlling the financial resources
  • Ensure adequate cash flow for operations and safety of financial resources at all field sites, liaising with field accountants and area coordinators
  • Supervise Finance Manager
  • Maintain close and cooperative working relationships with fellow financial staff, the Finance Manager, and area coordinators and work to develop the competence and capacity of national staff
  • Provide technical support for budget development to the Field Office and area bases as per Samaritan Purse Annual planning and budgeting guidelines.
  • Assist in preparing journal entries and finalizing all transactions and documentation related to the financial closeout process each month as well as the preparation of monthly bank reconciliation of country accounts
  • Monitor internal controls and perform periodic assessments to identify risks associated with financial operations within the country office. Ensure timely and accurate supplier payments.
  • Work closely with the grants department and program development officers to develop and amend program budgets and agreements
  • All other duties as assigned

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelors degree from a four-year college or university, preferably in accounting or another finance related field of study and two (2+) years or more of related experience; or an equivalent combination of accounting education and manager experience
  • Certified Public Account (CPA) or equivalent certification is preferred
  • Financial management experience, particularly in a foreign context, is preferred
  • Experience working with foreign currencies and external grants
  • Above average written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Microsoft Excel
  • Able to manage people and delegate responsibility
  • Able to work in a diplomatic way in adverse and pressure-filled environments
  • Able to encourage and demonstrate concern for the well-being of international and national staff
  • 12 credit hours of college-level Biblical Studies (required); able to be completed upon hire

Language Requirement: Fluency in English (required)

Travel Expectations: About 20% travel to field locations; required travel documents and vaccinations for entry into foreign countries will be necessary
