Overview of position

  • Our client is a dynamic & growing inter governmental organization, with 172 member states. they are committed to the principle that “humane & orderly migration benefits migrants & society”. Established in 1951 & now active in over 440 field locations worldwide, They work with partners, government & civil society to promote international cooperation to address operational challenges of migration & mobility, assist in the search for practical solutions to migration problems & to provide humanitarian assistance to migrants in need, including refugees & internally displaced people. Our client addresses the migratory phenomenon from an integral & holistic perspective, including links to development, in order to maximize its benefits & minimize its negative effects.
  • Our client in Mozambique has specialized in working with TB / HIV in Mozambican miners & migrant workers since 2012 & has since then developed a comprehensive approach with the objective of keeping Mozambican migrants in South Africa & in home communities in Mozambique safe & healthy. Through a close partnership with MISAU, our client is expanding the occupational health screening program, thought mobile clinics in the province of Inhambane adding more services to the fixed occupational health centres in Ressano Garcia, Xai – Xai & Mandlakazi. The overall objective of ensuring the well being of migrant workers & former mine workers circulating between their workplaces in South Africa & their homes in Mozambique. The migration health program also reaches migrant families in home & host communities alike.
  • Under the overall supervision of the Logistics Officer in Maputo & in close coordination with migration health unit & direct supervision of National Migration Heath Officer in Inhambane & in close coordination with Procurement / Logistics Assistant in Maputo, the selected candidate shall provide driving services in support of operational activities in the area of responsibility.

Role objectives

  • Drive our clients mobile clinic truck & transport authorized personnel.
  • Ensure that the vehicle is used exclusively for official / authorized business, as advised by the supervisor.
  • Responsible for the day to day maintenance of the assigned mobile clinic truck & ensure its roadworthiness.
  • This includes daily check of tires, brakes, engine oil, fan belt, etc.
  • Keep records of spare parts for the vehicle & conduct monthly spare part inventory.
  • Ensure that the vehicle undertakes regular service intervals & maintains cleanliness of the in & outside part of the vehicle.
  • Arrange for minor repairs & ensure that the vehicle is always kept clean.
  • Ensure that the vehicle has full tank & is technically ready prior departure for field trips.
  • Identify the most effective & efficient route to reach the requested destination in the province.
  • Implement measures to reduce potential security threats to our clients officials or property within the immediate vicinity of the vehicle & along transport routes.
  • Ensure that appropriate actions in line with local rules & regulations pertaining to driving are taken in case an accident occurs.
  • Maintain a vehicle logbook & verified by staff using the vehicle.
  • Ensure that the daily log sheet & monthly report is prepared summarizing statistics on mileage, fuel consumption, etc.
  • Undertake other office assignments & small errands when instructed.
  • Adhere to our clients code of conduct & to UNDSS / MOSS compliance, as well as the local Code of transit rules & regulations for road travel.
  • Maintain a high degree of confidentially & discreteness in discussions & travels, which involves our client & its officials.
  • Perform other duties as may be required.

Project reporting

  • This role works under the overall supervision of the Logistics Officer in Maputo, in close coordination with migration health unit & direct supervision of National Migration Heath Officer in Inhambane & in close coordination with Procurement / Logistics Assistant in Maputo.

Key competencies

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field & working experience or completed high school degree from an accredited academic institution, with two years of driving experience.
  • Has working experience in driving more than 16 tonne truck vehicles, four wheels, soft skins vehicles & minibus.
  • Knowledge of driving rules & regulations and skills in minor vehicle repair.
  • Clean police records.
  • Good knowledge of local area, in particular where this project is currently operating in.
  • Has a valid driving license.
  • Has experience & skills in driving trucks vehicles is advantage.
  • Have knowledge & experiences in basic MS Office is an advantage.
  • Fluency in Portuguese is required.
  • Working knowledge of English is required.
  • Fluency in the local languages such as Bitonga, Chope & Chitswa is advantage.
