Position: Engineering Assistant

Report to: Project Coordinator with Matrix Reporting line to WN Response Engineer

Location: Adjumani (West Nile), Uganda

Purpose of the position:

The Engineering Supervisor will provide support in the design processes, monitor and supervise implementation of all construction works in the West Nile Refugee Response with technical guidance from the Response Engineer and Food Assistance Manager according to the relevant World Vision Uganda, District local Government and Ministry level guidelines. The incumbent is responsible for providing technical supervision to ensure quality construction and value for money is realized.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Conduct verification/ assessment of infrastructure needs in the response and host communities
  • Support needs assessments and provide technical support in the design of new projects
  • Ensure timely development and submission of project Bills of Quantities
  • Conduct community mobilization to participate in infrastructure development to ensure ownership of these facilities
  • Supervise and monitor the technical aspects of construction ensuring quality implementation of the projects in line with the standards in the Building Bills of Quantities and technical specifications
  • Facilitate formation and training of Management Committees to ensure effective O&M of the infrastructure.
  • Support the procurement process of contractors in line with the Regional Engineer and in accordance with WV procurement guidelines
  • Participate in routine supervision of contractors and ensure that certificates of completion are available for payments of works done
  • Write and submit periodic project reports to the project Manager and the Regional Engineer
  • Participate in infrastructure sector coordination meetings with OPM, UNHCR and other partners and uphold the values of World Vision in all other engagements.

Qualifications: Education/Knowledge/Technical Skills and Experience

  1. The ideal candidate for the World Vision Engineering Supervisor job opportunity should hold a Diploma in Civil Engineering.
  2. Background in humanitarian work especially in NGO settings
  3. Two years’ experience in supervising construction projects
  4. Knowledge of the AutoCAD or ArchiCAD
  5. Computer literacy skills
  6. Perform other duties as required
  7. Effective in written and verbal communication in English
  8. Ability to communicate in applicable local language(s) is and added advantage
  9. Entrepreneurship, micro finance and strong agribusiness skills
  10. Computer literate
  11. Writing and reporting skills
  12. Networking and influencing skills.
