Background

UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination and violence against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action, peace and security. UN Women supports UN Member States as they set forth global standards for achieving gender equality; working with governments and civil society organizations to design laws, policies, programs and services needed to implement these standards.

UN Women Egypt Country Office is based in Cairo, and works under three priority areas: Leadership and Political Participation; Economic Empowerment; Ending Violence Against Women;

UN Women Egypt Country Office in Cairo seeks to hire an independent national consultant to oversee civil society interventions within intervention areas under the Ending Violence Against Women (EVAW) project.

The consultant is expected to coordinate field activities and support the efforts of civil society organizations, as well as document activity progress, outcomes and lessons learnt, and provide recommendations accordingly.

The consultant will work under the direct supervision of the EVAW Project Officer, and overall guidance of the Deputy Country Director. The assignment will be under the framework of both the EVAW and Safe Cities projects which is piloted within the Greater Cairo Region as well as in the urban areas of Giza and Qalubeya.

Three areas have been selected for program implementation Ezbet EL Haganna, Mansheyat Nasser and Embaba, while an additional three will be used as the control group Al Salam Al Sharkeya, Al Ebagaya and Boulak El Dakrour.

Development Objective

  • The work of Safe Cities – EVAW consultant will contribute to the development objective of Reducing the prevalence of Violence Against Women and Girls in targeted urban areas.

Immediate Objective

  • The immediate objective of consultant’s work is Coordination of CSO partners under the Safe Cities – EVAW project.

Duties and Responsibilities

The consultant is expected to deliver the following results

  • Coordination of field activities;
  • Establishing working relations with relevant partner CSO’s in the area of responsibilities ensuring timely implementation of the project;
  • Monitoring and reporting on on-going project activities, including ensuring budgetary formalities are carried out in line with the signed agreement and with regular visits to project sites;
  • Identifying programme ideas and designing programs based on field visits and assessments in the areas of the project;
  • Documentation of the field activity outcomes and lessons learned;
  • Submission of 4 quarterly progress reports detailing activities and outcomes; workshop feedback and assessments; success stories, and challenges,
  • Follow up on the faced challenges and hindrances that may affect planned implementation and expenses for the IP and inform management with,
  • Quarterly update on the achieved targets against the work plan with analysis for reasons of delay and possible alternatives,
  • Provision of recommendations for the UN Women Egypt CO on way forward and next steps

Education

  • At least 5 years of experience working in project management, coordination and reporting; in the development and/or humanitarian sector, particularly on projects Ending Violence Against Women
  • Previous experience working/consulting for international projects/programmes;
  • Proven track record and experience in reporting and communicating results, and developing programme and project planning documents.

Computer Skills

  • Proficient computer skills, specifically with Microsoft Office tools, as well as planning, monitoring and cooperation online tools and portals.

Language Requirenments

  • Fluency in English and Arabic, excellent spoken and written skills.
