  • Context of the role

The Finance Assistant will support the PPO function at GE to implement the sound accounting systems and provide accurate financial reports.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out the daily accounting of transactions and support the Finance Manager to perform month end activities (Transaction entries, Journal entries, reconciliation etc.)
  • Support and advice the Finance Manager to ensure adherence to local statutory and tax requirements and provide documentation and explanations to external and internal auditors as required.
  • Manage all GE payments using the internal financial system and liaise with the vendor to ensure payments are made in line with Girl Effect terms.
  • Review the payment approval dashboard and coordinate with PPO central support team to ensure all payments are processed on time.
  • Ensure adequate finance documentation and filing is properly maintained and completeness, accuracy / compliance with local and GE accounting rules.
  • Support to the Finance Manage in the budget preparation process.Feed into the development of the coding structure and roll out its implementation
  • Prepare the GE staff payroll and ensure submission of statutory obligations
  • Act as the first contact for finance vendors and partners (RRA, CSR)
  • Support the Finance manager in providing accurate internal management report to the team
  • Petty cash management including cash transactions, replenishment and journal entries to ensure proper reconciliation
  • Carry out quarterly asset spot check and calculate depreciation as needed
  • Any other duties as assigned by the Finance Manager to ensure the effective running of GE.

Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance or related field
  • Experience in accounting and finance functions
  • Excellent critical analysis and thinking skills
  • Computer skills and familiar with Microsoft office programs (Excel, Word, PowerPoint etc.)
  • Culturally aware and respectful – curious and sensitive about the cultures in which we operate
  • Ability to work effectively in multicultural teams with varying expertise, skills and backgrounds
  • Adaptable and resourceful – able to work and find solutions in complex, unfamiliar and changing environments
  • A positive and energetic self-starter with a confident and proactive approach in generating and leading new initiatives
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
