Chemonics seeks two grants assistants for the USAID-funded Resilient Waters Program (RWP). This five-year program aims to build more resilient and water-secure Southern African communities and ecosystems by improving the management of transboundary natural resources and increasing access to safe drinking water and sanitation services. The grants assistants will be based in Pretoria, South Africa. We are looking for individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world.

Responsibilities include:

  • Record and review grant and subcontract applications that RWP receives
  • Record the proceedings of evaluation/selection committee meetings
  • Respond to inquiries from potential grantees and subcontractors
  • Organize and maintain electronic and paper files of grant and subcontract documents and resources
  • Develop and maintain the grantee and subcontract databases
  • Assist with data entry in the grants and subcontract management system as well as monitoring and evaluation databases
  • Assist in producing grants and subcontract reports as required by the project team, senior management, or USAID
  • Follow up with grantees to ensure they are meeting deliverable deadlines and reporting requirements, including monitoring and evaluation reporting
  • Perform administrative tasks related to compliance, grant and subcontract document generation, and the mailing of grant agreements and subcontracts, and grant and subcontract checks
  • Assist with in-kind procurements for the grantees
  • Enhance and improve grants and subcontract management processes, and increase efficiencies

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Minimum of one year of related work experience
  • Strong interest in providing high-quality administrative support to a professional team; three years of experience doing so preferred
  • Skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint)
  • Experience and comfort working with numbers and in databases
  • Impeccable attention to detail
  • Strong document management skills
  • Demonstrated capacity to work independently and in a collaborative environment
  • Excellent time-management skills, aptitude for prioritizing tasks, and ability to maintain a results-oriented work process
  • Ability to handle sensitive matters with tact and discretion
  • Professional demeanor, tact, and good judgment
  • Knowledge of USAID rules and regulations preferred
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing
  • Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity
  • Fluency in English required
