Job Title: Grants Finance Manager

Reports To: Vice President of Finance & Accounting

Location: Kampala, Uganda

Status: Full time

Position Summary: The Grants Finance Manager oversees the full financial lifecycle of grant funding, including budgeting, forecasting, accounting, and reporting, to ensure compliance with donor requirements, organizational policies, and applicable regulations. This role is responsible for accurately tracking restricted funds, monitoring grant expenditures and cash flow, and maintaining audit-ready documentation. Working closely with the Grants, Finance, Operations, and country finance teams, the position strengthens grant financial controls, reporting systems, and overall financial stewardship in support of Water for Good’s mission.

Responsibilities & Duties Overview:

  • Manage the full lifecycle of grant funding, from initial budgets to final report submissions
  • Oversee grant and restricted fund tracking and financial reporting
  • Build and/or maintain grant financial reporting systems, including dashboards and automated reports
  • Partner with in-country finance teams by providing grant management training and direction as needed
  • Monitor and manage grant budgets and expenditures, to ensure compliance with funding restrictions and approved budgets
  • Forecast grant spending and cash flow needs
  • Maintain documentation for audits and grant reviews
  • Provide grant-specific financial support to internal departments such as Grants, Finance and Operations
  • Other tasks as assigned

Work Experience & Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

  • Passion for Water for Good’s mission of transforming lives through sustainable access to safe water, as well as improved sanitation and hygiene, in places that need it most
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting
  • 5+ years of progressive finance, grant management, or accounting experience in a non-profit setting
  • 3+ years of experience managing public and/or foundation grants
  • Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting principles and grant compliance requirements
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple deadlines
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Advanced to fluent English language skills, both verbally and in writing
  • Legally eligible to work in Uganda; no sponsorship will be provided

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience using Microsoft’s Business Central ERP platform
  • Experience using Power BI
  • Advanced to fluent French language skills, both verbally and in writing

Physical Qualifications:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times

Travel Required: Must be able and willing to visit all of Water for Good’s country programs to provide any necessary training and support, as needed
