Since 1944, Heifer International has supported more than 46 million Small Holder Farmer (SHF) families globally lift themselves out of hunger and poverty while caring for the earth in partnership with the communities we serve including Youth & Women. Heifer International is now accelerating its strategic approaches to closing the Sustainable Living Income (SLI) gap for 10 million additional SHF households globally by 2030.
Function 
The HR and Talent Acquisition Intern will support recruitment and general HR operations within Heifer Africa. This is a hands-on role that involves assisting in the hiring process, maintaining candidate records, coordinating interviews, and supporting employee lifecycle activities. The role provides practical exposure to talent acquisition, HR processes, and administrative support within a global nonprofit environment.
The Intern may be located in any of the following countries: Ethiopia, Kenya, Nigeria, Tanzania, Malawi, Senegal, Uganda, Rwanda or Zambia.
Responsibilities & Deliverables  
 
A. Talent Acquisition Support (40%) 
• Assist in reviewing resumes and shortlisting candidates under guidance.
• Help schedule interviews and send confirmation emails.
• Keep candidate records up to date in recruitment spreadsheets or trackers.
• Support the drafting and posting of job adverts on platforms as directed.
• Observe and support basic outreach activities such as LinkedIn searches.
B. HR Operations & Employee Engagement (30%) 
• Assist in organising onboarding materials like checklists and welcome emails.
• Help maintain digital personnel files and HR documentation.
• Support in organising and coordination of team engagement activities (e.g., preparing materials for events).
• Attend and observe DEI sessions; support coordination (e.g., booking rooms, sending invites).
C. Administrative & Coordination Support (20%) 
• Take meeting notes during HR team meetings and share summaries.
• Help with calendar invites and reminders for HR-related activities.
• Update HR folders and assist with organising documents on SharePoint or internal systems.
D. Other Assigned Tasks (10%) 
• Join team discussions and learning sessions to gain exposure to broader HR functions.
• Provide general admin support across the HR team when needed.
Minimum Requirements 
A degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Development, or a related field.
 
Most Critical Proficiencies 
• 6 months – 1 year of experience, including internships or volunteer work in HR, Talent Acquisition, or related fields.
• Basic understanding of recruitment and HR operations.
• Experience coordinating interviews or events is an advantage.
• Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
• Passion for talent acquisition, employee engagement, and HR processes.
