Habitat for Humanity Ethiopia (HFHE) started operation in 1993 as a branch of Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI). HFHE has provided simple, affordable shelter for families in Ethiopia while also working to improve Water, Sanitation and Hygiene and empower Vulnerable Groups in the country.

Job Summary

The Hygiene and sanitation officer will be a primary contact person in relation to community mobilization activities in the target area from the project team. He/ She will be responsible for the mobilization of the community for the project activities and seek their support and involvement in the project activities. He /She will be responsible for the sharing of clear and proper relevant project information to the communities, establish WASH committee, Provide WASH awareness creation training to the community and selection of beneficiaries. He/ She may facilitate in project teams visits and coordination with the committees.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Project activities and facilitate the community in the formation of Project WASH committees ensuring their roles will contribute in the overall goal achievement of the project.
  • Provide hygiene and Environmental safety training to project community.
  • Creating decision-making power among the communities in order to resolve their problems related to project, effective use of the community resources and process of beneficiaries identification and final selection as per agreed in the approved proposal.
  • Develop and submit weekly/monthly work plans in-line with the DIP to the line manager and submit field visits report timely to share the progress and issues during implementation.
  • He/She needs to work closely with NO coordinator and stalk holders to arrange WASH events and campaigns.
  • To maintain proper record keeping of the project activities during the implementation of the project. These include attendance of training participants, GMT data reporting, family profile records.
  • Produce learning documentations on Hygiene and sanitation impact.
  • Coordinate health and safety systems in an organization. Identify hazards and assess risks to health and safety, put appropriate safety controls in place, and provides advice on accident prevention and occupational health to employees, volunteers and contractors/builds.
  • Develop in-depth knowledge of intervention areas and should have close contacts with community leaders, volunteers, and activists.

Required number: –    1

Duration of the contract: – one year with possibility of extension.

Reporting to: Project Manager, Habitat for Humanity National Office in Addis Ababa

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor degree in Social and health Sciences, Environmental health science, Public health (HO) or equivalent in the relevant subject.

Work Experience

  •  4 years relevant experience in community mobilization.

Desired Skill/knowledge

  • Basic computer skill, MS-windows, access and outlook.
  • Experience in occupation health and safety designing, awareness, community development and hygiene training with standard methods and approaches
  • Commitment to HFHE Core values and mission statement
  • Experienced in hygiene promotion programs at least 2 years
