Overview of position

  • Under the direct supervision of the Chief Innovation Technology Section & over all supervision of Chief FTS, the ICT Innovation Support will be responsible for the following duties as mentioned in this TOR.

Role objectives

  • Assist in developing online applications as solutions to business problems (demand based) that address the needs of sharing experience & expertise.
  • Monitor new technological developments & suggest innovation to the website & intranet to ensure that the use of the most adequate & up to date technology in information management & delivery, including web based tools, distance learning, multi media applications, workflow & cooperative knowledge management tools, etc.
  • Assist in the deployment of UN field enterprise systems (FSS, COMET, COSMOS, UMOJA etc.) to the missions & support other ICTD systems.
  • Development & deploy databases using SQL & other applications.
  • Significant experience in the administration of client application systems such as FSS modules, NOTICAS.
  • Proficient in programming languages, such as .NET Framework, Microsoft SQL, HTML / CSS.
  • Share Point online development, experience in analyzing stakeholder requirements & automating business processes using MS Share Point online, InfoPath & the MS Power Platform (PowerApps, Power Automate).
  • Support with survey forms, 11 workflows, validation apps, story maps, dashboards based on the need of the program.
  • Reporting apps through which the IMO continuously interacts with the contractor to make sure data is not missing & is correctly captured.
  • IMO assists the contractor when the system fails, or manual edit is needed.
  • Working on ArcGIS pro for quality control of the data & correcting or seeking explanation from the contractor.
  • Continuously interacts with the operations staff, troubleshooting historical issues or providing new working features based on their suggestions.
  • Providing training to the contractor & staff, planned or unplanned on ad hoc basis on the use of the IMS & reports.
  • Road data & tracks manually updated to external mapping which is outside of the IM database.
  • Advising the operations team on how to proceed when tasks are interrupted for varying reasons on a case by case basis.
  • Providing multiple products (charts, maps & reports) to support Program Officers with their reporting obligations.
  • The task workflow is built, but still needs to be tested & approved by the operations staff.
  • The verification of the daily progress reports against the IMSMA completion reports & the monthly summary every month to ensure that the data provided by the IP is accurate.
  • Provision of timely GIS / IT related advice to the operations team as well as the contractors, Operations Managers & Technical Field Managers.
  • The IMO supports the verification of the data after the validation by the operations team to ensure the accuracy of the data.
  • Continuous support by the IMO is needed to enable the functionality & the smooth running of the task workflow.
  • Share Point online & Power BI administration, manage permissions on sites, lists, libraries & reports.
  • Expertise in creating ad hoc MS Power BI analytical reports & maintaining MS Power BI environment.
  • Prepare, maintain user guides & training material of all automated solutions.
  • Provide trainings on all deployed UN systems.
  • Ensure that the requested solutions are automated as per the requirements gathered & deployed within deadline.
  • Ensure the confidentiality, security & integrity of data.
  • Support the System Analysts for any functionality related queries.
  • Ensure customer satisfaction through follow up, client responsiveness & thorough communication.
  • Creates implementation communications for relevant audiences to be reviewed & distributed submission & collaboration with change & release management team.
  • Any other duties as required from the unit supervisor.

Project reporting

  • This role works under the direct supervision of the Chief Innovation Technology Section & over all supervision of Chief FTS.

Key competencies

  • Certificate in a relevant discipline
  • Minimum of 5 years of demonstrable relevant Information Technology experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in Africa (essential).
  • Fluent in English.
