Danish Refugee Council, one of the world’s leading humanitarian NGOs, is currently looking for a highly qualified Information Management Officer to support the Mixed Migration Centre – North Africa with with the management of quantitative data collected by 4Mi Monitors in North Africa.

The post holder plays an important role within the team in ensuring high quality standards for the data collected on a daily basis by the 4Mi. He/she will be a go-to person within the team and within the MMC global network for survey, data collection and data management questions.

About the job

Under the supervision of the Regional Manager in Tunis, the successful candidate will be responsible for conducting advanced quantitative data analysis of emerging mixed migration trends; contributing to better use of data and data validation processes; contributing to research projects; producing research outputs and quarterly donor reports; convening and organizing trainings and capacity building initiatives, among other responsibilities. Your main duties and responsibilities will be:

Data Management

  • Work closely with the Information Management and Analysis Officer to support the 4Mi team with migrating collected data into datasets in appropriate formats (such as .dta or .csv or .nvp);
  • Implement data cleaning and data validation tasks on a weekly basis according to internal procedures;
  • Lead on coding and labelling variables to be used in qualitative and quantitative analysis;
  • Assist the 4Mi Manager to improve data-related SOPs;
  • Serve as a focal point for data management in the region by compiling quantitative data from relevant secondary sources;

Data Collection

  • Ensure the maintenance of the electronic data collection solution;
  • Prepare and conduct the training of 4Mi monitors on the questionnaire and the data collection software;

Data Analysis and Visualization

  • Support with the visualization of data, including GIS data, using relevant software such as QGIS, Adobe Illustrator, Excel;
  • Contribute to the quantitative analysis data of 4Mi data using relevant software applications such as Excel, STATA and/or R in support to the Research agenda;
  • Stay up-to-date on the latest mixed migration research from the North Africa region and along the Eastern,Western, and Central Mediterranean Routes;

Other

  • Assist the team with administrative or any other tasks related to the 4Mi.

About you

To be successful in this role we expect you to have at least two-year experience working in quantitative research. Moreover, we also expect the following:

Required

  • Demonstrated experience in data management, cleaning, validation, storage;
  • Demonstrated experience with electronic data collection procedures and solutions (ODK, Kobo, Qualtrics, ONA, SurveyCTO…);
  • Demonstrated experience in the training in data collection teams;
  • Experience in GIS theory and GIS software (including QGIS, ArcGIS, CARTODB…) is an asset;
  • Experience in quantitative analysis highly desired including the use of relevant software applications (Excel, STATA, SPSS, R, Python…) is highly desirable;
  • Demonstrated understanding of current mixed migration debates and dynamics in the region is an asset;
  • Previous experience working with international NGOs is an asset;
  • Enthusiastic about learning, pushing limits, and finding new solutions;
  • Strong verbal and written communication aptitude;
  • Strong attention to details and rigor in dealing with quantitative data
  • Degree in statistics, economics, data analysis, orany relevant computer science degree
  • Full professional proficiency in English and French

  • Arabic is an asset

Shelter and Non-food Items: Provision of emergency shelter, emergency cash grants, rehabilitation of housing, distribution of non-food items (NFIs) and provision of return and repatriation kits.

Food Security: Emergency food provision or food voucher programmes. Training and capacity development in agriculture, agricultural inputs (e.g. tools and seeds), agricultural grants.

Protection: Advocacy for the rights of displaced people in their context of displacement, child protection initiatives, individual protection assistance based on vulnerability, legal aid, land & property rights, sexual and gender-based violence prevention, registration services for the internally displaced and refugees, monitoring of rights and rights awareness-raising, facilitation of return and repatriation processes.

Income Generation: Business training and SME development, business grants, life-skills training, literacy and numeracy training, vocational training, micro-credit loans, savings groups, group enterprise development and facilitation.

Coordination & Operational Services: Coordination and management of refugee and IDP camps, active participation in UN cluster coordination, humanitarian surveys and studies, facilitation of NGO Networks focused on displacement solutions, capacity development, training and support to local NGOs, secondment of experts to UN emergency operations worldwide

Community Infrastructure & Services: Provision of physical infrastructure like roads, bridges, community centres, irrigation systems or other community structures, facilitation and training of infrastructure management groups at community level, facilitation and funding of community development plans, initiatives for disaster risk reduction at community level.

Humanitarian Mine Action: Manual or mechanical mine clearance, clearance of former battle areas, education for affected communities – with special focus on children on how to avoid harm from mines and UXO, surveys of expected and confirmed mined or UXO areas, explosive ordnance disposal and stockpile destruction, capacity building of national demining institutions.

Armed Violence Reduction (AVR): Education in procedures for safe storage and safe handling of small arms and light weapons (SALW), capacity building of institutions for safety, local and community level conflict management and mitigation.

Water, Sanitation & Hygiene (WASH): Emergency water supply, hygiene item distribution, hygiene information and education, construction of latrines, installation water points, wells and water storage. Water purification.

Education: Education grants and fee support, school feeding programmes, teacher training and support, school materials provision and construction or rehabilitation of school structures.
