Purpose:
To develop National Training Package and Roll-out Strategy for the Management of Acute Malnutrition.
How can you make a difference?
Under the overarching guidance of the FMOH and in close consultation with the CMAM-TWG the consultant shall undertake the following responsibilities:
- Create an inventory of useful resources that will inform the development of the training package. This includes identification, review and documentation of existing national relevant policies, strategies, programs and guideline, as well as global and regional evidence-based guidelines, recommendations and principles, on the management of acute malnutrition.
- Review the current training package for SAM and MAM with a view to updating them into one harmonized National Training Package for the Management of Acute Malnutrition in Ethiopia. The review should ensure alignment with the finalized National Guidelines for Acute Malnutrition in Ethiopia, global and national evidence and recommendations.
- Participate in the relevant nutrition and technical meetings on acute malnutrition to enrich the background and content for development of the training package.
- Work closely with the FMOH and engage with key stakeholders at national and sub-national level to ensure the training package is aligned with existing national health and nutrition policies and protocols.
- In collaboration with the CMAM technical working group identify and build consensus on all the proposed changes to the National Training Package for the Management of Acute Malnutrition.
- Prepare a report of key findings on the current gaps and the proposed content revision or development for the National Training Package for the Management of Acute Malnutrition.
- In collaboration with the WHO consultant, update the training package including developing additional content not previously included in the 2013 Training Course but currently included in the finalised National Guidelines for Acute Malnutrition in Ethiopia.
- Circulate the draft versions of the revised training package to CMAM-TWG and stakeholders for their review and technical inputs.
- Consolidate feedback and facilitate discussion on key issues and questions ensuring that there is consensus and alignment with existing national health and nutrition policies and protocols.
- In collaboration with the WHO consultant, conduct a national TOT using the draft training materials. The TOT will aim to field test the draft training materials and consolidate additional feedback and inputs from practitioners.
- Complete compilation of the National Training Package for the Management of Acute Malnutrition for validation and approval. The final training package should incorporate stakeholders’ inputs and feedback.
- In collaboration with the FMOH and CMAM TWG facilitate the development of a national rollout strategy for the revised national guidelines and training package.
To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…
- An advanced university degree (Master’s or higher) in Nutrition and/or Public Health.
- A minimum of Ten[10] of relevant professional experience innutrition, including policy development, project planning/implementation/monitoring/coordination and/or information management.
- Experience in developing national nutrition guidelines and training materials for MAM and/or SAM and a solid knowledge of the CMAM approach and/or practice.
- Experience in working in or with government structures, especially the FMOH departments.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Computer skills, including word processing, spreadsheet and other standard software packages and systems.
- Developing country work experience and/or familiarity with emergency is considered an asset.
- Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is an asset.
- General knowledge of UN system policies, rules, regulations and procedures governing administration.
