Job Title: IT Support Assistant

Location: Ondo

Purpose of the assignment

  • The Nigeria Country Office in Abuja, started operations in 2008, through the DFID/UKaid funded Support to National Malaria Programme, SuNMaP (2008 – 2016). The office had presence in 23 states of the country and has managed at various times, about 15 programmes and projects. It follows the mandate of the parent organization in Nigeria and has been working specifically in the following areas:
    • Malaria control/elimination
    • Integrated community case management (iCCM) for malaria, pneumonia and diarrhoea
    • Nutrition
    • Neglected tropical diseases (NTDs)
  • Malaria Consortium recently received grants to implement insecticide-treated net (ITN) distribution campaign in collaboration with the National Malaria Elimination Programme (NMEP) in Ondo state through philanthropic funding.

Rationale:

  • Approximately 1,900 mobile phones were procured and used during the 2021 ITN campaign in Ondo State to strengthen the campaign’s ICT4D component.
  • These devices were subsequently reused for the 2022 ITN campaign in Anambra State and have been in storage since then.
  • As preparations begin for the 2025 ITN replacement campaign in Ondo, it is essential to assess the current functionality of these mobile phones.
  • This includes identifying devices that require troubleshooting or repairs. The outcome of this audit will also inform decisions regarding any additional device or accessory procurement required to ensure the usability and efficiency of the phones for the upcoming campaign.

Goal of the assignment

  • The objective of this Terms of Reference (ToR) is to engage IT Ad-hoc Support Assistants to verify the functionality and condition of 1,900 mobile devices intended for use during the 2025 ITN replacement campaign in Ondo State.

Scope of Assignment
The assignment will involve the following tasks:

  • Unpacking and physically inspecting the mobile devices.
  • Verifying the availability of essential accessories (e.g., chargers, batteries, USB cables).
  • Categorizing devices into:
    • Fully functional and ready for use
    • Devices requiring minor repairs or troubleshooting
    • Non-functional or obsolete devices

Specific objectives

  • The mobile device’s status will be checked to ascertain the level of functionality by unpacking them from the pack, checking for the availability of batteries and chargers, charging the mobile device to check the status of the battery health, if charging points are ok, and powering of mobile device and this will be documented using Microsoft excel spreadsheet with the coordination of the verification team lead. A total of 1900 mobile devices will be verified for three days.

The specific tasks include:
Working in collaboration with the administrative officer.

  • Unpack and repack mobile phones and accessories.
  • Assist in sorting and categorizing mobile phones based on functionality.
  • Label and arrange phones as per the verification team’s instructions.
  • Assist in logging information on functionality status (functional, faulty, missing accessories, etc.).
  • Handle extension cables and ensure devices are connected for testing.
  • Support clean-up and arrangement of the workspace each day.

Expected Output / Deliverables

  • Phones and accessories are unpacked, sorted, and re-packed daily.
  • Accurate labelling and grouping of phones based on status (functional/faulty).
  • Updated manual records or logs of devices worked on, as guided.
  • Clean and orderly verification
  • space maintained throughout the period.
  • Signed daily timesheet submitted at the end of each working day.

Type of personnel required
IT Ad-hoc Support Assistants (10):

  • A minimum of National Diploma in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field
  • 2 years of experience in a IT technical support role
  • Familiar with android phones and the operating system.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Customer service orientation and ability to work under pressure.
