Position Title: Law Enforcement Intern

Reports to: Senior Landscape Manager

Location: Somalomo, Dja Faunal Reserve, Cameroon

Position Summary

The Law Enforcement Intern will support law enforcement activities within the Dja Faunal Reserve by assisting in data collection, analysis, and reporting on wildlife protection efforts. The intern will work closely with rangers, conservation service, and community stakeholders to monitor illegal activities, support patrol coordination, and ensure compliance with conservation policies. The role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to biodiversity protection.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the collection, organization, and analysis of law enforcement data, including patrol reports, wildlife crime statistics, and incident records.
  • Support the management of the SMART (Spatial Monitoring and Reporting Tool) database for tracking ranger patrols and law enforcement activities.
  • Help in planning and scheduling ranger patrols based on intelligence gathered from field data and reports.
  • Assist in the preparation of reports, presentations, and briefings related to anti-poaching efforts, illegal logging, and other conservation law enforcement activities.
  • Conduct research on best practices in conservation law enforcement and recommend improvements to existing strategies.
  • Assist in organizing and facilitating capacity-building workshops for rangers and community members involved in conservation efforts.
  • Monitor and evaluate law enforcement effectiveness by analyzing patrol success rates and reporting areas of concern.

  • Ensure the confidentiality and security of sensitive law enforcement data.
  • Perform any other tasks assigned by the Senior Landscape Manager to support conservation law enforcement efforts.

Requirements and skills

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in law, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, Forestry, Wildlife, Criminology, Project Management, or a related field.
  • Experience or strong interest in conservation law enforcement, wildlife protection, or community-based conservation.
  • Knowledge of conservation laws, wildlife protection policies, and enforcement strategies is an advantage.
  • Familiarity with data management tools such as Microsoft Excel, GIS software, or SMART monitoring tools is preferred.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment, often in remote field locations.
  • Willingness to travel and work in rugged outdoor conditions.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and commitment to conservation goals.
