Operational Context/Role

JRS is seeking to recruit a suitable candidate for the position of livelihood project officer to oversee the agribusiness project within the livelihood department. The incumbent will report to the Livelihood Coordinator.

Reporting to the Livelihood Coordinator, the Project Officer will be based one in Nairobi and one in our Kakuma office. This is a fixed term contract typefor One (1) Year with possibility for extension subject to availability of funds and individual performance.

JRS has zero tolerance towards all forms of sexual exploitation and abuse and takes seriously all concerns and complaints about sexual exploitation and abuse against children and vulnerable adults by JRS personnel. JRS is committed to Safeguard children and vulnerable adults and has policies which outline the expected behaviour, code of conduct and responsibility of all persons acting on behalf of JRS (Staff, consultants, volunteers, interns, Pastoral team, and other representatives). All staff working for JRS are expected to abide by these policies and guideline.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

1. Mikono farm:

  • To be the field focal point in the agribusiness project in liaison with the livelihood’s coordinator.
  • To take lead in sourcing for market of the Mikono farm produce and train the beneficiaries on the same.
  • Carry out training of JRS agribusiness beneficiaries on modern farming techniques and support them to participate and maximize income along the value chain.
  • Carry out needs assessment and advice the office on the needs of the beneficiaries to ensure the programs are relevant.
  • Planning in liaison with the livelihood’s coordinator all matters to do with the agribusiness project.
  • Compile weekly and monthly report to the livelihood’s coordinator on the progress with the various planned activities in the farm.
  • Maintain accurate records of the beneficiaries, and all activities in the agribusiness project.

2. Livelihood Project Support:

  • Contribute to the planning, implementation, and evaluation of JRS livelihood projects.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to identify needs and opportunities for refugee beneficiaries.
  • Facilitate community meetings and workshops to gather feedback and enhance participation in livelihood projects.
  • Conduct beneficiaries needs assessments, including home visits and make recommendation to the office on the same.
  • Perform any other lawful duty assigned by authorities in JRS.
  1. Advocacy and Networking:
  • Represent JRS in relevant forums and advocate for the rights and needs of refugees.
  • Build positive relationships with local artisans, community members and government agencies.

4. Compliance and Quality Assurance:

  • Ensure compliance with organizational policies and local regulations.

Person Specification – Essential Requirements

Qualification

  • A bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field such as Agronomy, Agriculture, Development studies, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
  • At least 2 years of relevant experience working with refugees and disadvantaged sections of the community.
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of livelihoods-based development and emergency responses operations.
