In Kenya, Acted has been present since 2007 to meet the humanitarian and development needs of communities affected by natural calamities, population displacement and inadequate access to basic services. Acted has a capital office in Nairobi and operational bases in Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASAL) counties in RiftValley and Northern Kenya. The teams work with local governments and partners to support the most vulnerable households through Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), food assistance and disaster preparedness programmes.
ACTED is looking for professionally confident, self-motivated, experienced, and committed team player to fill the Livelihood Mobilizers positions in Lorengkippi, Turkana County.
Job Purpose
The Livelihood Mobilizer is the link between Acted and the beneficiary community. S/he ensures the implementation of Acted’s Women and Youth empowerment and livelihood activities are done with involvement of the beneficiaries and upholds accountability to the stakeholders, supports in needs assessment, mobilization, targeting, validation, registration, verification, baseline survey, training of groups, post distribution monitoring, endline survey, follow-up on beneficiaries in liaison with the Project Manager. S/he ensures that the project activities are executed in collaboration with the local community, the local authorities and other relevant agencies.
FUNCTIONS
1.Assessment and mobilization
- Conduct field-based needs assessments and consolidate the information for planning and implementing women and youth empowerment activities and livelihood activities and any other project(s) related responsibilities as may be assigned by the Project Manager within the project area.
- Support MEAL in community organization during verification, baseline, PDM and endline surveys.
- Oversee targeting, validation and registration of project beneficiaries.
- Support PD in translation of field assessment findings into feasible and relevant project proposals.
- Mobilize community members to actively participate in women and youth empowerment activities and livelihood interventions.
- Support in the development of data collection tools for women and youth empowerment activities and livelihood interventions.
- Carry out any other project(s) related assignments as may be directed by the Project Manager.
2. Monitoring
- Support in follow up and monitoring of all women and youth empowerment activities and livelihood activities in area of jurisdiction.
- Attend other project(s) activities as may be directed by the project Manager.
3. Supervision and Training
- Develop and implement beneficiary engagement plans e.g targeting, mobilization, validation, registration, baseline and verification.
- Support in the development and implementation of community context specific training guides for enumerators supporting beneficiary engagement activities.
- Develop Clear plan for community sensitization, mobilization, monitoring and evaluation activities.
- Carry out training of target Self Help & Youth Groups
4.Reporting
- Provide accountability documents to Project Manager for review and onward sharing with Logistics, Finance, HR and Coordination.
- Provide timely reports on field trips, trainings, monitoring visits and assessments to the Project Manager.
- Compile weekly updates, monthly reports and other Acted substantial reports as may be required.
Qualifications/Skills Required:
- Minimum Diploma in Sociology/Social Science, Community Development, Rural Livelihoods or related field.
- At least 2 years of work experience in a similar field; previous experience with humanitarian organizations is an asset and experience in community mobilization, livelihoods projects, or economic empowerment initiatives
- Strong team player of high integrity, pleasant personality, ability to work under least supervision and meet strict deadlines.
- Ability to work independently.
- Basic understanding of market systems, extension services, Value chains and community capacity building
- Strong interpersonal and facilitation skills for working with diverse community groups and partner engagement
- Good communication skills, including basic report writing. Proficient in local languages and basic computer skills.
- Knowledge on Gender and Social Inclusion with additional training or skills in gender mainstreaming / integration is an added advantage. Demonstrated commitment to respect, equity, diversity and inclusion including gender equality
- Positive attitude and a willingness to learn.
- Alignment in organizational value and code of conduct
- Familiarity with the humanitarian coordination system is an advantage.
- Willingness and ability work in a hardship environment, for extended periods of the time required.
- Knowledge in communicating in local (Turkana) language
- Knowledge and understanding of the Project area (Lorengkippi) will be a plus
- Computer literacy, particularly in MS Office 365; Word, Excel, and PowerPoint;
- Analysis and problem-solving skills with ability to make sound judgment
- Ability to work closely with communities, partners, local/government authorities
- Experience in implementing projects in areas that are prone to resource-based conflicts is an added advantage
