MAMAS Alliance is a unique network of 33 independent leading grassroots NGOs all across South Africa whose core business is the care of the most vulnerable and least fortunate children and youth (and their families), guiding and assisting them to reach their full potential. The candidate therefore should really care and have a strong role in facilitating, supporting and guiding this network and movement of hope through: professionally linking South African business to its NGOs through Corporate Social Investment (CSI); coordinating information, sharing skills and knowledge between the NGOs through various programs; and the enhancement of the empowerment of vulnerable children through specific programs such as PowerGirls (PG).

Based in Johannesburg, MAMAS Alliance seeks to appoint an

MANAGING DIRECTOR / SERVANT LEADER

The successful candidate will be employed by KFM and will report to the director of Kinderfonds MAMAS in The Netherlands. The MD will be managing a dedicated team of six professionals performing functions in this regard. Applicants must have a social and community development background as well as a serious understanding of, and track record in, CSI / fundraising. A strong networking capability is essential as the MD will be in constant liaison with the staff, NGOs, corporates and KFM.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Coordinating sharing of information, knowledge and skills in the MAMAS Alliance network
  • Organisation and/or delivery of training sessions, based on needs and requests from the 36 partners
  • Reporting to the Director of KFM, the MD will manage the MAMAS Alliance team (3 CSI Mangers, 1 Program manager, 2 support staff)
  • Liaising with Country Representation on strategic and operational activities
  • Administration and handling of MA budget and HR aspects
  • Report writing
  • Participating in management meetings and strategic planning

Requirements:

  • Social work/community development/social science or other relevant degree or master
  • At least 8 years’ experience in a community development or the NGO sector
  • At least 5 years of experience in a senior management/leadership position
  • Strong Program Management skills
  • Demonstrable affinity with community development or the NGO sector
  • Experience and real understanding of fundraising / CSI as well as a track record of success
  • A team player who has experienced and believes in the value of working in a highly diverse team
  • Experience in training is a definite advantage
  • Innovative thinker and problem solver
  • Good coaching and communication skills, specifically strong listening skills
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to integrate and align programs to the overall vision of the organisation
  • Must possess underlying guiding values such as non-judgemental, non-discriminatory, respect for all, non-self imposing to guide their work
  • The ability to communicate professionally, creatively, flexibly and respectfully with clients and partners: both in the corporate sector (on all levels), as well as in the NGO sector
  • Proficient in working with MS Office and Excel, as well as online communication tools
  • Willingness to travel within South Africa to communities for site visits, COVID-19 regulations permitting
  • Driving licence and own car required

Note: This is a one year contract with the possibility of a permanent contract after one year
