Duties and Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of the Project Manager and Coordinator, the incumbent will act as the Monitoring and Evaluation Officer and will be expected to perform the following key functions:

  • Coordinate monitoring and evaluation activities in the implementation of the Project Document and Annual Work Plans:  The incumbent will provide highest quality monitoring and evaluation support to the Integrated Approach to Building Peace in Nigeria’s Farmer-Herder Crisis Project as well as the Transitioning from Humanitarian Relief to Long Term Development, Addressing the Herdsmen-Farmer Crisis Project (HSTF).
  • Working in close collaboration with the partners and stakeholders the incumbent will ensure result-based and cost-effective execution of the project activities through quality monitoring and evaluation advisory support, provide robust analysis for monthly, quarterly, semi-annual and annual reports in the targeted States to advise on potential UN/UNDP Country Office, national and donor response.
  • Guide and coordinate assessments, surveys, studies and reporting: Incumbent shall support the Country Office (CO) to prepare/complete Project and other reporting documents; develop tools, indicators, and coordinate fieldwork as when needed.
  • Tracking and monitoring of project implementation: She / he shall regularly update on progress towards implementation of the annual work plan; and support the CO’s effort on research, provide input into resource mobilization documents and partnership building
  • Support the development of knowledge products: The incumbent shall assist in the development of knowledge products – tools, methodologies, situation briefs, updates or reports; and prepare and submit to UNDP regular project reports (progress and annual), as well as, regular mission reports and make useful recommendations that can help to deepen the project impact/results.

Qualifications    
Education:

  • The desired candidate for this assignment shall possess an advanced degree / Master’ degree in Social Science, Information Technology, Development Studies or other relevant fields.

 Experience:

  • She / he must have, at least, five (5) years development experience with national or international organizations, two (2) of which must be in the area of Monitoring and Evaluation, Research, and System Strengthening.
  • Cognate experience and evidence of competence in working with national and/or international partners, such as, UN, government and CSOs is desired.
  • The candidate should be able to use ATLAS ERP for Project Management and Monitoring and Evaluation purposes.
  • The candidate should be adept in results-based monitoring.
  • She / he must have sound technical report writing skill and proven ability to engage with multiple stakeholders to achieve desired results.
  • Previous working experience with UN agencies is an asset.
  • The candidate’s knowledge of disaster risk management, environmental management, peace and conflict prevention, human capacity development and management consulting will be an added advantage

Language:

  • She / he must be fluent in written and spoken English.

UNDP role in UN coordination

UN coordination is a key priority for UNDP and a commitment in our Strategic Plan. The UNDP Administrator is the Chair of the UN Development Group (UNDG), which unites the funds, programmes, specialized agencies, departments and offices of the UN system that play a role in development. Created by former UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan and endorsed by the General Assembly, the UNDG seeks to ‘facilitate joint policy formulation, encourage programmatic collaboration and realize management efficiencies’ among UN agencies.

At the country level, this interagency structure is embedded in the Resident Coordinator System (RCS), which encompasses all organizations of the United Nations system with operational activities for development. The RCS is managed by UNDP on behalf of the entire system. The Resident Coordinator function is carried by the UNDP Resident Representative. As the designated representative of the Secretary-General, the Resident Coordinator is the leader of the UN Country Team (UNCT) and plays a central role in coordinating the UN’s development operations and ensuring alignment with national priorities. UNDP provides the lion’s share of the resources needed to maintain the RC system in over 130 countries. The remainder of the RCS funding comes from a cost-sharing arrangement between all participating agencies.

UNDP also administers the UN Capital Development Fund, which helps developing countries grow their economies by supplementing existing sources of capital assistance by means of grants and loans; and UN Volunteers, which fields over 6,000 volunteers from 160 countries in support of peace and development through volunteerism worldwide.
