WHAT WILL YOU DO? (not all-inclusive)

  • Contribute to the development and/or improvement of WFP Somalia’s Country Office’s plan to generate evidence by engaging with key internal stakeholders to identify evidence needs and put in place mechanisms to meet these needs. Such mechanisms include and are not limited to baseline assessments, endline assessments, evaluations, other project/activity-specific studies etc.
  • Keep the Country Office’s (COs) evidence generation plan (learning agenda) updated by working with colleagues in areas offices, field offices, and country office technical units to continuously identify opportunities for generation, documentation, and sharing of evidence, lessons, impact, and best practices.
  • Contribute to the implementation of the CO’s evidence-generation plan (learning agenda) by coordinating assessments, studies, and other evidence-generation activities included in the plan.
  • Work with the communication team and other colleagues in communicating insights and evidence generated from WFP Somalia’s activities.
  • Collaborate with the regional M&E teams to coordinate Country Strategic Plan (CSP) mid-term reviews, thematic reviews, inter-agency and UN country team reviews, evaluations, and donor-led initiatives intended for learning, strategic and operational decision-making. This includes: – defining the scope of work; developing terms of reference, ensuring alignment with the corporate guidance and procedures for CSP mid-term reviews and de-centralized evaluations, advice on evaluation/review approach adapted to the context of Somalia, organizing field visits and support with the evaluation reports finalization etc.
  • Promote the understanding and use of data/evidence by supporting the coordination of programmatic learning events such as workshops, reflection sessions, meetings, and other information dissemination.
  • Contribute to the development of innovative, user-friendly, and useful information products for internal and external stakeholders from assessments, research evaluations, and reviews.
  • Contribute to other innovative initiatives to promote a culture of programmatic learning and adaptation in WFP Somalia
  • Travel to area offices and field offices across Somalia to support M&E processes and quality as needed.

DO YOU MEET THE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS?

Education:

  • Advanced university degree (master’s degree or equivalent) in Statistics, Economics, Mathematics, Data Science, Anthropology, Psychology or other relevant degree.

Work Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of professional experience in managing or coordinating planning, monitoring, learning & evaluation activities or similar experience.

Language

  • International Professional: Fluency (level C) in English language communication. Proficiency in Somali would be an advantage but not a requirement.

ARE YOU COMPETENT FOR THIS JOB? DO YOU HAVE: –

  • Proficient in data analytics and database management, with a proven track record of utilizing data effectively.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in utilizing digital humanitarian assistance tools to support program objectives effectively. Strong expertise in Cash-Based Transfer (CBT) methodologies, including mobile money and voucher systems.
  • Excellent skills in reporting and financial reconciliation, ensuring accuracy and compliance
  • with organizational standards.
  • Strong analytical and report-writing skills in English.
  • Proficiency in MicrosoftSuite (MS Excel, MS Word, MS PowerPoint, etc)
  • Training and capacity strengthening skills.

The World Food Programme is the world's largest humanitarian agency fighting hunger worldwide.

WFP was first established in 1961[4] after the 1960 Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) Conference, when George McGovern, director of the US Food for Peace Programmes, proposed establishing a multilateral food aid programme. The WFP was formally established in 1963 by the FAO and the United Nations General Assembly on a three-year experimental basis. In 1965, the programme was extended to a continuing basis.

Organization

The WFP is governed by an Executive Board which consists of representatives from 36 member states. Ertharin Cousin is the current Executive Director, appointed jointly by the UN Secretary General and the Director-General of the FAO for a five-year term. She heads the Secretariat of the WFP. The European Union is a permanent observer in the WFP and, as a major donor, participates in the work of its Executive Board.

Its vision is a "world in which every man, woman and child has access at all times to the food needed for an active and healthy life."

The WFP has a staff of about 11,500 people, the majority of whom work in remote areas.

Goals and strategies

United Nations C-130 Hercules transports deliver food to the Rumbak region of Sudan.

The WFP unloads humanitarian aid at the Freeport of Monrovia during Joint Task Force Liberia.

The WFP strives to eradicate hunger and malnutrition, with the ultimate goal in mind of eliminating the need for food aid itself.

The objectives that the WFP hopes to achieve are to:
