World Vision Uganda (WVU) is a Christian relief, development and advocacy organisation. WVU started operations in Uganda in 1986 by responding to the needs of victims of the guerrilla war which ravaged the Luwero Triangle area of Central & Southern Uganda. WVU’s work significantly increased as the organisation responded to conflict in Northern Uganda (1988-91), and the HIV/AIDS pandemic in Southern Uganda in the early/mid 90s.

Today World Vision operates in 49 districts in the country with the aim of ending poverty and injustice in communities through programming in the following focus areas; Health & Nutrition (including WASH), Resilience and Livelihoods, Education and Child Protection. Integrated advocacy and community empowerment are also fundamental components of WV’s programming philosophy in Uganda.

Here’s where you come in:

As the National Director for World Vision Uganda, youwill strategically lead, develop and direct the implementation of all aspects of World Vision Ministry in Uganda. In performing this role, you will be an effective member of the World Vision Partnership, and will model the organisation’s principles of Twin Citizenship to ensure high ministry quality and impact. You will contribute to partnership life and unity, by acting as both a local and global representative of the organisation. You will lead the Uganda team to achieve the country’s strategy in alignment with World Vision’s global strategy, Our Promise, for effective operations.

Requirements include:

  • Relevant Master’s Degree
  • A minimum of 10 years management experience, 5 of which should have been at National/Country Director or similar level in complex development programming. Experience with WV integrated programming areas (Education, Health & Nutrition (including WASH), Resilience & Livelihoods and Child Protection) desired. Experience in microfinance operations and Humanitarian Emergency Assistance a plus
  • Demonstrable track record in working with Board(s) and leading senior leadership teams
  • Successful past experience in overseeing large grants and working with government donors (USAlD, EU, DFAT, FCDO, etc.), UN agencies (WFP, UNHCR, etc.).
  • Clear communicator (in both verbal and written form) with ability to present persuasively to Board, Senior Management Team, staff, donors, NGOs, government officials, community leaders and other stakeholders and partners.
  • Travel Requirement: 20% regular domestic internal travel to project locations is expected. 10% international travel will be required.
