Chemonics seeks an Operations and Logistics Manager for the USAID/Southern Africa Countering Wildlife Crime (CWC) Activity. The purpose of the five-year Countering Wildlife Crime activity will be to reduce threats to and protect biodiversity from wildlife crimes in Southern Africa. The Activity will build on the long history of the USAID Southern Africa Regional Mission in countering wildlife crime (CWC) through partnerships with regional organizations, governments, the private sector, and civil society. Measurable development outcomes include improved coordination between stakeholders, strengthened criminal justice sector capacity, and increased resilience to corruption. This position will be based in Pretoria, South Africa. We are looking for individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people and communities around the world.

Responsibilities include:

  • Support the Operations and WILD Fund Director to provide overall operational, logistical, and administrative support to the CWC Activity
  • Plan and coordinate CWC Activity events and activities, including technical workshops across CWC’s regional landscape with government counterparts and other project stakeholders.
  • Coordinate and arrange workshop/meeting venues, catering, and other logistical needs appropriate to the activity including event set-up and participant registration. Develop and maintain a checklist for activity planning and implementation.
  • Assist with coordination of payments to logistics vendors including hotels, vehicle hires and airlines. Ensuring invoices are received in a timely manner with all documentation complete and following up with finance team to ensure payments are made on time.
  • Make travel and accommodation arrangements for project staff and visitors as requested
  • Manage procurement of goods and services; administer maintenance agreements as directed
  • Accurately track and record project equipment, ensuring proper maintenance and security
  • Ensure operation of office equipment including reviewing maintenance requirements, arranging for necessary repairs, maintaining equipment inventories and evaluating new equipment
  • Serves as the activity’s Safety and Security Focal Point (SSFP) by providing leadership, strategic guidance, and management for special security requirements. These include but are not limited to: general and facility security assessments; event security; security for staff traveling in and around South Africa; support for regional assessments and/or project movements in risk areas; and any potential direct or indirect threats to the safety of staff and operations

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business management, public administration, human resources, finance, or relevant field is required.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in operations and logistical project management, with preference for international-funded project management experience
  • Experience with a USAID-funded project is strongly preferred
  • Experience managing procurements and tracking inventory
  • Experience coordinating travel and logistics
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and develop working relationships and a high level of trust with public/private organizations to promote an accurate understanding of risk, strengthen knowledge of individual country contexts, and bolster project planning abilities
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with culturally diverse staff
  • Proven effectiveness implementing security protocols and operational procedures to maintain staff safety and emergency preparedness
  • Strong organizational, work prioritization skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, meet deadlines, and exercise good, professional judgment that reflects positively on the image and communicates the established program message of the project
  • Demonstrated ability to work productively within a team
  • Advanced IT capabilities and experience in Word, Excel, PowerPoint required. Experience with mapping programs, alternative communication platforms, or information security requirements is beneficial
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
