CURE has an exceptional opportunity for an experienced and skilled Physiotherapist (volunteer) at its hospital in Malawi. Proven post graduate knowledge and experience is essential. Evidence of leadership and extended skills in pediatric orthopedics will be highly advantageous. The Physiotherapist will gain a broad based experience in managing orthopedic conditions in both children and adults in the developing world. Teaching experience is essential as the Physiotherapist will be required to mentor local therapy staff and physiotherapy students in order to develop sustainable local skills and capacity in physiotherapy and rehabilitation.
Responsibilities include:
- Deliver patient care to pediatric inpatients/outpatients and adult outpatients/inpatients.
- Provide mentoring and practical support to the physiotherapy team based at the Beit CURE International Hospital including Physiotherapists, Rehabilitation Technicians, Physiotherapy Assistants and Therapy Volunteers.
- Maintain, develop and implement patient treatment protocols in order to continually advance standards.
- Coordinate, teach and supervise College of Medicine Physiotherapy Students and visiting Therapy Volunteers.
- Provide administrative leadership and logistical support to facilitate the running of the therapy department.
- Attend and participate in Clinical Staff Education Meetings.
Qualified candidates for this position will possess the following:
- Postgraduate Physiotherapy qualification.
- Previous engagement as a musculoskeletal physiotherapist including children.
- Skills in the evaluation/ maintenance of appliances, orthoses and prostheses.
- Good communication skills.
- Data entry skills.
In addition, all candidates should be familiar with the Statement of Faith, and will be required to agree to perform the duties of the position in support of, and not in opposition to, this aspect of CURE International
This is a full-time, volunteer (6 months – 2 year commitment) position that offers coverage of flights and in-country accommodation expenses, and contingent on the budget, perhaps a modest stipend.
