Job Title: Predictive Modeling Consultant

Location: Nationwide

Job Summary

  • This is a consultancy for a proposal the organization is working on. The consultant will conduct a market assessment of the needs and potential demand for predictive modeling and foresight analysis products and will also identify potential risks and barriers related to the development and dissemination (commercial or not) of such a system, especially on rights issues (intellectual property, access rights, user rights, legal liability, etc.). This is a remote position with some traveling.

Key responsibilities
Task 1: Assess the demand and needs for products of prospective analysis and forecasting of forced displacement in the Sahel, by:

  • Determining the relevance of a predictive modeling and prospective analysis initiative for the various humanitarian actors in the Sahel such as donors, humanitarian organizations, decisionmakers/government, international agencies, etc. according to their specific needs.
  • Determine why other types of forecasts (similar or different) did not have the expected success as they were not favored by the market.
  • Establishing what types of products are suitable for humanitarian actors’ activities and for donors and decision-makers’ demands.
  • Identifying the gaps and strengths – both individual and collective – of existing predictive modeling and prospective analysis systems “in the market” today.

Task 2: Analyze possible barriers and risks to be considered in the development of predictive modeling tools for central Sahel, by:

  • Determining what the access, user and intellectual property rights related to the existing databases and analyses are and how they should be dealt with.
  • Establishing what dissemination / distribution strategy(ies) should be developed for the final product, considering legal issues.
  • Identify legal risks.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Advanced university degree in Economics, Marketing, Law or a related discipline.
  • At least 5 years of professional experience in market research, including analytical products and intellectual property/use of data thematic.
  • Demonstrate knowledge/understanding of the humanitarian sector and displacement issues in the Sahel or similar experience in the Sahel zone.
  • Demonstrate an understanding and experience in predictive modeling and/or prospective analysis.
  • Proven experience in market research including analytical products and intellectual property/ use of data thematics.
  • Proven relevant experience in the fields of predictive modeling and/or prospective analysis
  • Proven expertise in writing reports.
  • Proven experience in designing research tools and facilitating focus groups or conducting individual interviews, including remotely.
  • Excellent writing skills in French or English.
