Simavi is an ambitious, growing development organization of more than 50 people. Our head office is in Haarlem, Netherlands, and we have local representations in Bangladesh, Indonesia, Tanzania and Uganda. In partnership with local civil society organisations, we improve the health of marginalised communities in the poorest regions in developing countries in Africa and Asia.

The Programme Manager will be accountable to Simavi in The Netherlands; daily management will be done by the Senior Project Officer (i.e. functional management line) and Performance Management will the responsibility of the WASH Programme Manager (i.e. hierarchical management line).

Responsibilities for the Programme Manager Job

  • Timely submission of Country Work Package annual plans and budget and Country Work Package quarterly progress reports to the Watershed Executive Committee, in close cooperation with Simavi NL and analyse gaps and synergies in light of Watershed Kenya strategy and objectives.
  • To organise annual planning, bi-annual outcome monitoring and reporting meetings with Kenya in-Country Work Package Team.
  • Monitor the Kenyan learning agenda and proactively facilitate cross learning with other Work Packages (e.g.Uganda – Kenya; Kenya – International, Kenya – PMEL). External relations and communication
  • Manage and maintain relevant WASH-IWRM sector relations in close coordination with KEWASNET (one of our national partners).
  • Representing Watershed-Empowering Citizens on behalf of Simavi in national, regional and international networks.
  • To ensure proper and regular communication about the country programme by in-country WP team by meaningful communication products (e.g. blogs).
    Profile

Programme Manager Job Qualifications

  • University degree (minimum BSc, preferably MSc) in an area related to the programme objectives – e.g. water sanitation and hygiene, in water resources management, political science, international development.
  • Seven years professional work experience at the subnational and national levels in strategic planning, networking, lobby and advocacy, capacity building and resource mobilization.
  • Experience with different levels of policy influencing and experience with different approaches of influencing and capacity building.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of Kenyan policies and regulations in the water and sanitation sector, e.g. the Kenyan water act and the devolution process.
  • Experience in reporting, formulating strategies and concepts.
  • Excellent analytical, negotiation, communication and advocacy skills.
  • Ability to develop/nurture partnerships and networks.
  • Good reporting and presentation skills and fluency in English.
  • Independent, flexible, decisive and action-oriented.
  • Computer skills (with good skills in EXCEL, Word) including internet navigation and various office equipment.
  • Willingness to travel to the field and spend longer periods of time in the field.
  • Strong motivation for equity, passionate colleague and willing to work dedicated to the aim of the Agenda 2030: Leave no one behind.
  • Relevant networks in Kajiado and Laikipia (or other counties) is a regarded as a plus.
