Overview of position

Under the direct supervision of the MHPSS Project Assistant and supported by MHPSS Officer in close coordination with the Psychosocial Counsellors, the EU project aims to “Strengthening Community Adaptability and Resilience for Displaced and Host Populations”. The MHPSS activities aim to foster coping, strengthen social support networks, provision of individual psychosocial support to all that need and strengthening MHPSS services through community-based structures in Juba. In particular, the incumbent will undertake the tasks outlined below

Role objectives

• Mobilize community members to participate in MHPSS activities.

• Conduct community awareness sessions on mental health, psychosocial well-being, and available services.• Facilitate community dialogues with leaders, women’s groups, youth groups, and religious actors.• Support the establishment and strengthening of community support groups.• Identify individuals showing signs of distress or protection concerns • Provide Psychological First Aid (PFA) when appropriate.• Refer individuals to MHPSS, protection, GBV, health, or other services following established referral pathways.• Maintain confidentiality and adhere to safeguarding principles.• Assist in organizing and facilitating psychosocial group activities, including youth sessions, parenting groups, and women’s support groups.• Support the implementation of community-based interventions that promote positive coping and social cohesion.• Assist in monitoring attendance, documenting feedback, and ensuring safe spaces are inclusive and accessible.• Maintain accurate records of referrals, attendance lists, and community meetings.• Participate in team meetings, supervision sessions, and capacity-building training.• Coordinate closely with MHPSS staff, counselors, case workers and Protection team.• Submit weekly and monthly activity reports.• Any other duties assigned by the supervisor.

Education:

• Minimum secondary education; diploma in psychology, social work, community development, or related field preferred.

• South Sudanese by nationality

Work experience:

• At least 1–2 years of experience in community mobilization, protection, GBV, child protection, or MHPSS programming.

• Experience working in humanitarian or displacement settings is an asset.

• Strong communication and facilitation skills.

• Fluency in local languages and good command of English.

• Ability to work respectfully with diverse groups, including women, youth, and persons with disabilities.

• Strong interpersonal and community engagement skills.

• Empathy, patience, and cultural sensitivity.

• Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to safeguarding standards.

• Ability to work independently and within a multidisciplinary team.

• Good organizational and reporting skills.

• Commitment to do-no-harm and ethical practice.

• Ensure all interactions with community members are respectful, safe, and non-discriminatory.

• Zero tolerance for exploitation, abuse, or discrimination
