To reinforce our Initiative Inclusive Humanitarian Action, we are looking for a Regional Humanitarian Coordinator for Africa East & South.

This position is permanent and full-time, and will be filled locally in our programme region AFES, preferably in Kenya or Ethiopia.

  • First entry point for country offices in sudden-onset humanitarian situations;
  • Coordination and oversight of the development of new humanitarian projects on the country and regional levels in close collaboration with the humanitarian technical advisors;
  • Management of interfaces with internal stakeholders, namely internal program standards, quality assurance and finance teams, institutional fundraising and philanthropy division and the regional structures;
  • Ensure continuous specialist technical advisory support (upon request and proactive) within the defined areas of technical expertise before, during and after project / programme implementation;
  • Representation of CBM’s humanitarian initiative in targeted events, networks and alliances, furthering CBM’s reputation in inclusive humanitarian action
  • Initiating best practice documentation, publications and internal learnings;
  • Targeted capacity building, especially towards the project/program related internal humanitarian staff and external partners and implementation structures;

These are your qualifications

  • University degree in humanitarian action, development, political sciences or a related field
  • Profound understanding of standards and principles of inclusive humanitarian action and their application in the project management cycle and humanitarian coordination mechanisms
  • Extensive project development experience
  • Structured, quality-oriented and solution-oriented approach to work
  • Independent, outgoing personality with high professional & social competence and diplomatic skills
  • Very good knowledge of English, additional language skills (German, Spanish) are an advantage.

CBM (previously Christian Blind Mission) is an international Christian development organisation, committed to improving the quality of life of people with disabilities in the poorest communities of the world. It is considered one of the world's oldest and largest organisations working in this field.[citation needed] CBM was founded in 1908 by the German pastor Ernst Jakob Christoffel, who built homes for blind children, orphans, physically disabled, and deaf persons in Turkey and Iran. Initially CBM's efforts were focused on preventing and curing blindness but now cover other causes of disability.

CBM targets the people affected by disability by supporting local partner organisations to run programmes in the fields of healthcare, rehabilitation (community-based rehabilitation - CBR), education and livelihood opportunities. CBM also advocates for disability inclusion following UN guidelines in international policy-making bodies, and campaigns and raises funds through its member associations. CBM has an emergency response team to respond to conflicts and natural disasters.

CBM reached more than 31 million people in 2012. It supports more than 700 partner-projects in 70 countries and works with various partner organisations, including disabled people's organisations, mission agencies, local churches, self-help groups and relief agencies. It has (as of 2012) 11 member associations in Europe, North America and Oceania.
