Overview of position:

  • Our client is currently operating in Somalia & Area Offices (AO’s) / Sub Offices (SO) established in Hargeisa, Berbera, Bossaso, Garowe, Dhusamareb, Galkayo, Baidoa, Dhobley, Kismayu, Mogadishu & Dolow. Despite our client being active in certain areas, parts of its operational areas are considered inaccessible or have intermittent accessibility to UN staff by the UN Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS). This restricts or limits the ability of our clients staff to liaise directly with retailers & other retail supply chain actors in those areas.

Role objectives:

  • The role of the consultant(s) is to gather information on based on questionnaires developed by our client & disseminate information to supply chain actors from our client.

Expected output:

  • Visit locations (specified by our client) & complete questionnaires provided by our client.
  • Distribution of EOI (Expression of Interest) to retailers.
  • Verification of information through visits of retailers & completion of checklist. In case a retailer refuses an interview, an alternative (simpler) form should be completed to prove existence of the shop in location in question & alternative questions to be asked of beneficiaries or others, depending on situation.
  • Sensitization / briefings for retailers (retailer relationship management).
  • Follow up on identified issues with retailers at field level.
  • Gather information of supply chains & corridors.
  • PHL & other market strengthening project monitoring.
  • E-shop scale up & monitoring.

Project reporting:

  • Detailed / well compiled supply chain market & retailer questionnaire (photos & contact list of key informants attached).
  • Properly filled monthly retailer performance questionnaire (with photos attached).
  • Detailed / well compiled weekly supply chain / corridor alert questionnaire.
  • Well captured minutes / action points from monthly retailer meetings.
  • Weekly update report on e-shop scale up, as needed.
  • Weekly update report on post harvest loss & other market strengthening projects (PHL), as needed.
  • Quarterly performance appraisal reports of CTG Retail Logistics Consultants.

Key competencies:

  • Bachelors degreee in a relevant discipline.
  • 3 – 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Must have prior work experience in Somalia.
  • Must be fluent in both English & Somali.
  • Able to understand & internalise our client strategic objectives & motivate team members to do the same to develop & improve individual & team skills.
  • Easily adapt to change to accommodate changes in direction from our client & external parties as & when required.
  • Show willingness to explore & experiment with new ideas & approaches in personal work.
  • Able to consistently deliver results (both individual & teamwork) on time, within budget & without errors.
  • Able to make rational decisions when faced with uncertain circumstances & give supervisory direction to the team when required.
  • Be a team player who seeks to understand & adapt to different team working styles.
  • Able to portray an informed & professional demeanour towards stakeholders, internal & external partners.

Team management:

  • This role has no team management responsibility.

  • Necessary training on our clients rules, regulations, project objectives, assessment tools & systems.
  • Guidelines & tools including questionnaires & checklists.
  • Monthly activity schedule with list of locations to visit in priority.
  • Reporting formats for field missions.
  • Training of trainers on POS devices, e-commerce & PHL activities.
  • Training venues, training materials & trainer.
