Overview of the position:
- Position Title: RMMAC Specialist (Local National)
- Place of Performance: South Sudan (Multiple Locations)
- Start date: 01/09/2020 – 30/06/2021
- Duration: Up to 10 months (@6 days/week)
- Remuneration: $1600 pcm plus potential allowance
The Regional Management of Mine Action Capacity (National) Specialist (herein referred to as the ‘National Specialist’) will support the management of the demining activity being carried out throughout the affected country. The National Specialist shall be required to deploy to field duty stations in South Sudan to support the Regional Management of Mine Action Capacity Officer (RMMAC) Officer & ultimately UNMAS South Sudan. The National Specialist’s work shall ensure the conformance of the demining operations with IMAS & the South Sudan Mine Action Standards.
Role objective:
- Support the management & delivery of all demining activities as directed by our client & keeping oversight on all of our clients demining activities as assigned within South Sudan.
Expected output:
- Support the RMMAC Officer in monitoring all Mine Action activities within the area of operation.
- Monitor all Mine Action operations to ensure adherence to the statement of works, the contractors’ work plans & SOPs, the South Sudan National Technical Standards and Guidelines (NTSG) & ultimately IMAS.
- Inspect, monitor & evaluate technical aspects of Mine Action survey & clearance activities in operations.
- Contribute as required, drafting EQA reports after visiting operations sites.
- Participate in any board of inquiry to investigate any incident or accident to which assigned.
- Perform any other task designated by the respective RMMAC Officer & / or Operations Office in Juba, such as checking UXO survey, HA & CR’s.
- Provide advice to the international RMMAC Officer / Juba Desk & our clients management team on local issues, particularly those relating to ethnicity, social tensions & security.
- Assist the international RMMAC Officer in the preparation of reports for submission to our client’s HQ in Juba.
Project reporting:
- The National Specialist will report directly to the respective RMMAC Officer in the sub-office & ultimately, to the Senior RMMAC Officers and UNMAS Operations.
Team management:
- This role does not have any team management responsibility.
Education:
- Completion of Secondary School Education is a related field Including a high standard of written English.
Experience:
- 15 years of relevant experience (in humanitarian, commercial sector & / or military) & not less than minimum of 10 years of demonstrable relevant Mine Action experience.
Languages:
- Fluency in English is essential (oral & written).
Required competencies:
- 15 years of relevant experience & not less than 10 years of experience in mine clearance operations.
- Detailed knowledge of all ammunition types encountered in South Sudan.
- Thorough understanding of IMAS, the South Sudan NTSG & IMSMA.
- Be able to demonstrate an ability to calculate & draft reports.
- Computer MS Office literate & familiar with mapping systems.
- Microsoft Office user.
