Overview of position

Under the overall supervision of the Media & Communications Officer & under the direct supervision of the National Media & Communications Officer, the Senior Multimedia Associate will provide overall assistance & daily technical support to field teams to support the collection of stories, videos & photographs about our clients projects in close coordination with their communications team as well as field teams in sub offices. The selected candidate will also provide support in the developing of communication materials & donor visibility package to showcase the impact of our clients interventions, primarily in South & Central Somalia.

Role objectives

  • Assist with the creation & dissemination of public information materials on our clients work in Somalia, audio, visual, written & verbal.
  • This includes capturing & editing high quality images & video clips highlighting & drafting short human interest stories & factsheet in the context in which our client works, as well as its activities.
  • Undertake regular field duty travel to locations & attend important events to shoot & edit high quality photos & videos of our clients activities.
  • Develop draft content for video scripts for news & features for use in multimedia digital platforms & social media, in coordination with the field staff & Communications & Graphic Design Officer.
  • Facilitate and conduct interviews with communities & other persons relevant to our clients communications team.
  • Assist in drafting & maintaining content for our clients Somalia website & social media platforms in English & Somali, in coordination with the Communications & Graphic Design Officer as well as work closely with the social media focal points in the region & headquarters to include their Somalia content on the global accounts.
  • Maintain & catalogue our clients Somalia communications products, media contact lists, content calendars & archives.
  • Maintain & update our clients Somalia media library & their media library to ensure online information is timely & accessible.
  • Support in archiving of collected footage, photographs & edited outputs in shareable format & maintain an up to date log of all content produced utilizing our clients Somalia archive folders & current storage systems.
  • In close coordination with the Media & Communications Officer, support & conduct trainings on communication & visibility for colleagues working in field locations.
  • Proactively identify media opportunities in Somalia & in close liaison with PSU team, plan & monitor media events.
  • Support the organization of public events in project locations to promote the visibility of our clients operations in Somalia.
  • Work closely with Communications Assistants to finalize multimedia campaigns for donor visibility.
  • Support the public relations component of our clients projects including supporting program teams with the implementation & monitoring of project visibility plans project locations & in line with donors’ visibility guidelines.
  • Assist in coordinating the production & distribution of communications tools in the field such as publications, stickers, posters, t-shirts & vests.
  • Perform such other duties as may be assigned.

Project reporting

  • This role works under the overall supervision of the Media & Communications Officer & under the direct supervision of the National Media & Communications Officer.

Key competencies

  • Bachelor’s degree in media & communication, journalism, filmmaking, photography, graphic design from an accredited academic institution with at least four years of relevant professional experience or high school diploma with at least six years of relevant professional experience.
  • Experience in designing, filming professionally & producing digital communication products for social media & other platforms.
  • Proven experience in working with communities in Somalia to identify, gather & disseminate public information products.
  • Proven experience working with photography & video cameras as well as editing software packages for social media & other platforms.
  • Knowledge of communication video editing & design software, such as Adobe Creative Cloud, Final Cut Pro, Canva or others.
  • Proven knowledge with developing social media products for development organizations is an asset.
  • Strong writing, speaking & translation skills for documents & in meeting settings.
  • Ability to accept challenges & to assume duties & responsibilities in all communications areas, as needed.
  • Fluency in English & Somali is required & knowledge of local dialect May May is an advantage.
