MSF Holland is looking for: Specialized Technician

–          Starting gross salary:   11,696.00 ETB

·         Hardship Allowance: 2,924.00 ETB

Main Purpose
 
Performing autonomously, specific complex / advanced installation, maintenance works and repairs depending on technician’s specialization (requiring special/qualifications/training), according to supervisor’s instructions and MSF standards and procedures, in order to ensure a proper functioning and maintenance of MSF equipment, installations and infrastructures

 

 

Accountabilities
 
•      Performing autonomously, all necessary complex / advanced installations, maintenance and repairs (i.e. requiring special qualifications/training), according to the supervisor’s instructions and executes any needed tests after any repair or maintenance. Including the following functions:

•      Qualified Electrician

•      Qualified Mechanic

•      Biomed Technician

•      Making suggestions regarding any repair or maintenance work needed in MSF electrical installations, equipment and/or vehicles and assisting logistics department for any relative work needed.

•      Managing the stock of consumable items, filling in the stock cards, carrying out physical stock inventories, executing orders necessary for renewing stock, avoiding any shortage.

•      Responsible for the equipment and tools, including extinguishers, checking they are correctly and safely used, maintaining and renewing them when necessary and keeping the inventory updated.

•      Keeping working area clean and tidy.

•      Ensuring that all record sheets and books related to logistical maintenance are always completed. Preparing needed reports before and after any repair or required maintenance.

•      Immediately informing the line manager of any problems that arise in the course of the work, particularly with regard to damage, loss, theft or attempted break-ins

•      Working in collaboration with other specialised technicians and workers, if necessary, or managing a small team of workers.

 

 

 

MSF Section/Context Specific Accountabilities
 
·         Perform all necessary repairs, maintenance and construction works according to specialisation (i.e., carpentry, , radios, computers, office equipment, biomedical equipment etc. )

·         In the event of faults / deterioration, diagnose the problem and propose possible solutions to the line manager and/or technical adviser. Make suggestions regarding any repair or maintenance work needed in MSF premises.

·         Designing, planning and implementation and performance of all electrical works and installation,

·         Installation, repair and maintenance of all electrical systems, energy equipment and bio-medical equipment. Ensure that they are functional at all times.

·         Receive repair/ maintenance requests and record them, perform the maintenance and provide feedback on the status of the requests.

·         Timely execution of the electrical safety checklist.

·         Equipment and installation include but are not limited to:

o   Generators

o   Electrical installations 380/220V, 12V including UPS and batteries

o   Refrigerators, airconditioners, fans, …

o   Cabling

o   Charger/inverters

o   Lightening

o   Earthing

o   RCD checking, etc

·         Ensure the check and follow-up of facilities (office compound, health facilities, residences …) under the line manager supervision.

·         Carrying out regular visits to the facilities, reporting any anomalies or problems to the line manager.

·         Checking that premises observe safety and security norms (fire extinguishers present, electrical installations earthed, etc.) and take the necessary actions when improvements are needed.

·         Train the MSF staff on the appropriate use and minor maintenance of electrical installations, pumps, generators, airconditioners, biomedical material etc

·         Assist logistics department for any relative work needed.

 

Job Requirements

EducationEssential Electrician diploma/TVET Level 4 with Competency Certification (COC) or recognized formal training
Experience•      Previous working experience as an electrician required (minimum 2 years’ experience)Desirable in MSF or other NGOs
Languages     Local language essential, mission language desirable.

Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) was founded in 1971 in France by a group of doctors and journalists in the wake of war and famine in Biafra. Their aim was to establish an independent organisation that focuses on delivering emergency medicine aid quickly, effectively and impartially.

Doctors Without Borders

Three hundred volunteers made up the organisation when it was founded: doctors, nurses and other staff, including the 13 founding doctors and journalists.

MSF was created in the belief that all people should have access to healthcare regardless of gender, race, religion, creed or political affiliation, and that people’s medical needs outweigh respect for national boundaries. MSF’s principles of action are described in our charter, which established a framework for our activities.

MSF's first missions

MSF’s first mission was to the Nicaraguan capital, Managua, in 1972, after an earthquake destroyed most of the city and killed between 10,000 and 30,000 people.

In 1974, MSF set up a relief mission to help the people of Honduras after Hurricane Fifi caused major flooding and killed thousands of people.

In 1975, MSF established its first large-scale medical programme during a refugee crisis, providing medical care for the waves of Cambodians seeking sanctuary from Pol Pot’s oppressive rule.

In these first missions, the weaknesses of MSF as a new humanitarian organisation became readily apparent: preparation was lacking, doctors were left unsupported and supply chains were tangled.
