Overview of position

The position is located within the supply chain management pillar within our clients operations in Somalia. The Supply Chain Assistant will be based in Somalia & reports to the SCM Sections Chiefs.

Role objectives

Within the delegated authority, the Supply Chain Assistant will be performing the following duties:

  • Assist in planning, overseeing & supporting effective & timely SCM logistics operations.
  • Assist in preparing demand plans, requisitions & inbound delivery plans for diverse services & commodities, adhering to mission policies, procedures, contracts, SOPs, guidelines & instructions.
  • Coordinate the procurement process & maintain internal databases to track requisitions & inform stakeholders of their status.
  • Assist in preparing delivery & inbound cargo reports, coordinating customs formalities & ensuring timely cargo distribution.
  • Liaise with the technical, procurement & movement control units to manage inventory control, receiving, inspection & disposal activities.
  • Support the implementation of the Preliminary Assets Disposal Plan (PADP) & liquidation activities.
  • Support the business intelligence unit in developing BI reports, dashboards & analytic models to inform management decisions.
  • Monitor the ERP tool & BI dashboards, identifying & addressing anomalies.
  • Prepare, compile & maintain weekly reports & statistics.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Project Reporting

This role reports to the SCM Sections Chiefs.

Key Competencies

Required qualifications for this role:

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required with technical or vocational certificate in at least one of the following area such as procurement / contract management, inventory management, supply management or data science is required. Experience in supporting supply chain services in support of or in a field operation of the United Nations common system or international non governmental organizations is desirable.
  • A minimum of eight (8) years of progressively responsible experience in supply services, inventory management, procurement, logistics, project management, data analytics, business intelligence or related area is required. Knowledge of data analytics & data driven solutions in improving business processes, international shipping & associated INCOTERM & asset management is desirable.
  • Fluency in oral & written English is required & a working knowledge of oral & written Somali language is desirable.

Is conscientious & efficient in meeting commitments, observing deadlines & achieving results, motivated by professional rather than personal concerns & shows persistence when faced complexity, remaining calm in stressful situations.   • Works collaboratively with colleagues to achieve organizational goals. Solicits input by genuinely valuing others’ ideas & expertise, is willing to learn from others. Shares credit for team accomplishments & accepts joint responsibility for team shortcomings.
