INTRODUCTION

Habitat for Humanity Kenya (HFH Kenya) is a national non-profit organization that begun its operations in 1982 as an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International. The affiliation is guided by a National Affiliation Agreement (NAA) and a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). HFH Kenya’s vision is: “A nation where every family has a decent place to live.” Mission: “Seeking to put God’s love into action, Habitat for Humanity Kenya brings people together to build homes, communities and hope”. Our overarching goal is: “Enabling low-income families access decent and affordable shelter”

JOB PURPOSE

Reporting to the Volunteer Engagement Coordinator, the Volunteer Engagement Intern will work as part of the Volunteering Team to support the day- to day operations of our volunteer programmes. The intern will assist the Volunteer Engagement Coordinator with various aspects of volunteer event planning, volunteer recruitment and management, and handling in-kind donations. Tasks may include recording donations, answering volunteer inquiries, maintaining records of volunteers and their service hours, and processing donations of goods. The ideal candidate will also assist with creating invitations and programs for special volunteer events.

DURATION OF INTERNSHIP: Six months with possibility of extension based on funding availability.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Volunteer Management Support:

  • Processing and updating volunteer records.
  • Assist in keeping volunteer database (paper and electronic) up-to-date and accurate.
  • Assisting with organization of volunteer trainings and orientations
  • Assisting with special volunteer event planning
  • Assist with scheduling of volunteer activities utilizing a variety of methods, including online sheets.
  • A variety of other regular clerical and organizational tasks that are integral to the success of a volunteer management program.
  • Assist with creating online training materials (videos, power points, evaluation forms, etc.) for volunteers.

    Communication’s support:

    Provide support to HFHK’s communications desk with the following;

  • Conduct interviews with volunteers to gather their personal stories, experiences, and motivations for volunteering.
  • Write engaging stories and profiles highlighting the contributions of our volunteers and the impact of their work.
  • Collaborate with the Volunteer Coordinator to identify key themes and messages to convey through storytelling.
  • Capture photos and videos during volunteer builds.

KEY PERFORMANCE MEASURES / INDICATORS

  • Percentage of volunteer records processed and updated accurately within specified timeframes.
  • Volunteer feedback satisfaction scores.
  • Number of process improvements or optimizations suggested by the intern and successfully implemented.
  • Percentage of volunteer database entries that are correct and up-to-date.

    QUALIFICATIONS

  • Diploma or bachelor’s degree in social sciences, Communications or any other related field.
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED

  • Previous experience in volunteer work is preferred.
  • Ability to effectively organize and manage multiple tasks, including maintaining volunteer records, scheduling activities, and assisting with event planning.
  • Prior experience or knowledge in event planning, including logistical coordination, venue selection, and volunteer engagement for special events.
  • Basic photography skills
  • Interviewing skills
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships and collaborate within a team.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, juggling multiple priorities.
